I am an interior designer looking for opinions on which car has the most beautiful interior. Tech is also important, like a big media screen, etc. I know luxury cars have this but I'm looking for a car under $45,000, sedan or SUV. Brand and reliability are not a big issue. I mostly care about the quality of the experience while I'm in the car. I do not want to feel like I am surrounded by cheap plastic. Or smell it.
Any car pre 1964 will have little plastic and a beautiful interior. I recommend the early 60s late 50s Cadillacs.
OP, the center console does not have to be "reflective"; there's several materials/colors to choose from, shiny and non-shiny
the graphics screen is the easiest to read in the industry, and instead of embedding it into the dash, they made it float, like 3D, to make it easier to see/read
the nav, the music, the radio, the videos, the backup camera vid are all amazing HD quality
easily the highest quality screen and easiest to read in the under 45k category, that's just one of the many reasons why it's being copied (badly) by mazda and others (the mazda "screen" is not even in the same category as the benz)
as the article that someone posted said, with the screen in your line of sight, you spend less time with your eyes off the road and the screen and the interior are not going anywhere, it's a huge selling feature
when you play movies on it (obviously when car is parked) it looks like you are at the cinema
this interior has won many awards and is a big hit with consumers
the cars are selling like hotcakes; people who don't like this interior are in the tiny minority
Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, and Volvo generally have well thought out interiors that are generally pleasing. It depends upon the particular model and engine as to the reliability and cost. I'd look at a Volvo S60 and S80, Mercedes C and GLC as mentioned above (skip the CLA and GLA), Audi A3/S3, A4, Q5, and a Lexus RX and ES. If you found a deal, you may be able to come in under $45k on a base Audi A6, which has a very nice interior for the class, though it would be FWD, not a quattro.
If looking at a CPO 1-2 year-old car, I'd look at a Mercedes E350 and a higher trim A6.

There's more soft touch leather in the Audi as well where it is plastic in the Merc. Like the side of the center console. It's not that the Merc is bad...the S3 is just better. S3 would also leave the 300 well behind in the dust and it's AWD. 4.4 to 60 in S3, 6.2 in the C300, and 7.45 from the GLC.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit. Leather everywhere, adaptive cruise, 8.4" nav screen that's usually highly ranked compared to others, quiet, configurable gauges, vented and heated seats, heated steering wheel, and great towing capacity,

Best interior while staying under $45k is probably with Audi right now, S3 or A4.
Our 6 cyl overland was 38k iirc and it's pretty nice
Not familiar with Audi. Just googled S3 2016 interior. The air vent looks like bug eyes staring at you. Bug ugly
