I am installing some new headlight assemblies for a conversion i'm doing and decided to give 3M protective film a go:

https://www.amazon.com/Extra-Wide-He...headlight+film

It says "tint" but it is not tinted, just clear. My goal is that this serves primarily to mitigate UV exposure and subsequent degradation/yellowing. We'll see...

Has anyone used a product such as this before with any success?

I wonder how much of a problem that UV exposure poses meaning how many years will it take before headlight lenses start to yellow? Most cars that I have seen with dulled headlights are usually 15 years old or so.
Is the plastic better or worse today?
How many years do you plan on keeping this car? Is it worth the extra money and hassle to protect the headlights?

I've been taking note and have observed many vehicles in the 5-10 yr old range that have started to "fog" and yellow. The truck I am working on has a bit of a permanent spot in my stable for the foreseeable future - it serves me well as a utility/camping vehicle, just did a complete chassis overhaul/resto and have no plans on replacing or getting rid of it. So yes, definitely worth the extra $30 on the new headlight lenses if it works out!

Are you only putting the film on one side? If not, how would you know how effective it really is?
