I use hazard lights when driving very slow due to severely decreased visibility from heavy rain or thick fog. Only other time I used my hazard lights was when I had a blow out on a road with no shoulder. Rode slowly with hazards on until room to safely pull over.

People do it here in the northeast as well. Not as common though.

It does make a difference in a torrential downpour as you usually find idiots who don't turn on any lights and can barely see them

Yes, but what's the big deal? In the South, someone driving with their hazards in heavy rain or a snowstorm are just saying, "I don't know how to drive in this so stay the hell away from me!"

It's to your advantage.

Hazard lights are for STATIONARY hazards. Driving with them on screws with the people that know what they mean, as they're ready to evade a stationary object or hazard, but the stupid thing keeps moving.

Warning: You May Be Using Your Hazard Lights Incorrectly

I don't do it but have seen other drivers that do. It doesn't bother me much; what bothers me are the drivers that don't turn on any lights in a rainstorm.

This. Even worse than that, it can prevent turn signals and brake lights from working. Turning them on is more dangerous then leaving them off if you're driving.

Its actually more of a warning to let others know a Yankee is coming, flying like a bat out of Hell, up the highway in the pouring down rain.

When your wipers are on, your headlamps and tail lamps must be on in Missouri. I’m not sure about Georgia, but I suppose it’s similar. I have never driven with my hazards on.

In Florida, it is a violation of the traffic law to use hazard lights while the vehicle is moving. Minimum speed on I-75 is 50 mph, max is 70 mph When it rains, I've seen idiots driving in the middle and left lane doing 40-45 with flashers on causing traffic back up.
