Yeah - given the last real chassis and powertrain redesign of the Ranger was in 1990 during the Gen 1 Explorer work, it always amazed me how many they still sold at EOL. Ford killed that nice little truck due to zero investment and milking it for all it was worth.
Why would they when they build the best selling vehicle in America the F-150. Also why did GM stop making the S-10 and the GMC S-15, so did GM also milk their small pickups fo all its worth.
I'm no expert on vehicle "platforms", but wouldn't some of the mid-sized SUV's be perfect as a platform for a new UTE?
The Hyundai rumored Santa Cruz is supposed to be based on the new Santa Fe body. That vehicle has actually been built as a concept. There's a rumor surrounding the Ford Focus platform as well, which is obviously even smaller. Those are the two most likely to ever actually appear.
I'm just desperate for a replacement for the "perfect" vehicle I finally found, unfortunately 15 years after it was built and 12 after the last of the model.
Airborneguy, why are you "Desperate" for a replacement for the Baja?

Is it falling apart? Something wrong with it?
And how about one of these?
Too big. At that point, I'd just buy one of the "mid-sized" pickups.
I should get a few years more out of the Baja, probably about 3. I'd be happy with 3. Problem is I have the beginnings of the typical rust appearing which eventually does Subaru's of this generation in. I'm not going to go through crazy rust mitigation hoops at this point. I'm not looking to fully restore this vehicle or anything like that.
could you not find a really lows mileage well kept Baja to replace your current one since they are quite rare and unique kind of a cool car to own IMO.

I don't want to invest in another old car at that point, no matter how well kept, especially not the exact some one. They were only made for 4 years, so if this one lasts me 3 more years, I'd be going from a car I had bought at 15 years old to, at best, another car I bought at 15 years old.
It would also be nice to have the modern accoutrements.
