Thankfully the hike starts at the end of a black top road. We've been up there with all manner of non-outdoorsy vehicles over the years. I did some damage to my Subaru Baja there 3 years ago, but I was being an idiot driving too fast in a place I shouldn't have.

Our local utility company raised their rates because of fuel cost as well as recovering cost from hurricanes last year. We just got our electric bill and it was much higher in dollar amount versus kilowatt hours.

The rates in Alaska are very expensive already, and gradually coming up along the cost of fuel. A lot of the electricity in Alaska is generated by the use of coal, and diesel.
