Just in this particular screwed up market moment the CPO may actually cost more.

CPO is the worst possible choice. You're paying extra for what basically amounts to an overpriced extended warranty.

Since I was 28, and I am now 80, I have owned probably 20 new cars and only two used. Now some were company cars replaced every two years. As far as me purchasing a new car, probably 12 or so and 8 or so Fords. My wife also bought new so she probably bought 6 or so. Chevy, VW, Toyota, Volvo, Ford, Suzuki. We only buy new cars. Present car, bought new is a 2017 Ford Explorer with 35K gentle miles. I do not see me replacing it.

1993 Jeep YJ Wrangler
2004 Dodge SRT 4
2012 Chevy Sonic LTZ turbo

Generally buy used (probably 12+ cars now)... two in the list above were purchased because of timing; current vehicle died and I needed a replacement quickly for commute which left no time to shop used market. In general, I don't feel buying new is worth it to me.

#1 1986 Mitsubishi Mirage I kept for 14 years, then sold it because I needed a bigger car.
#2 2000 Kia Sportage was a real junker, constantly in the shop (great warranty, they lost money on that car). Sold after 10 years, when the warranty expired.
#3 2011 Honda CRV. planned to keep it 15 years, but sold it when I moved overseas. Bought a replacement used Honda CRV.

Only one; a Mazda B2000 long-bed pickup. It was great!
