1960 Renault Daupine, $1050. Glorified egg-carton.
1964 Volvo PV-544, $2400. Worse than the Renault.
1970 Datsun 510, about $2400. Sweet.
1973 Renault 6, about $1800. Workhorse, in Arabia.
1978 Mitsubishi (Dodge Colt), $4000. Horse x2.
1985 Toyota Corolla hatchm,$12,000. Still like new when handed down at 300k-miles

None....I got my licence in 1968. I could have bought new but since I liked working on cars, I didn't want the payments. The last 2 vehicles I have bought have been returns after 3 year lease. One minivan I bought in 2008 for about 1/2 retail and drove for 10 years. The small car I bought in 2018 had only about 20K on it. It should last me a while.

Zero new cars. I was going to buy one in my mid-20's, I had about $12,000+ (yes I'm old lol). That was enough for a base Thunderbird, but that year they were okay looking but kind of bland too. I put down a $200 deposit, they said a couple of weeks to wait. In the meantime, as people were congratulating me that I was getting a new car (I drove beaters before that), I realized I wasn't nearly as excited as they were, I wasn't really anticipating or can't wait till it gets here, etc.

So I decided to go get my deposit back. I felt like if I was spending pretty much all my savings on a car, I should be in love with that car. I had no idea what that was though. On the way back from getting my deposit back, I passed another dealership. They had a stunning bright Royal blue Trans Am V-8 with T-Tops sitting on one of those elevated ramps over the dealership. I pulled in, asked to drive it, and instantly fell in love, despite my fear of trying to see over that mile-long hood. It was a year or so old (1989), 33,000 miles, and the same amount of money as the new T-bird was. As I was sitting at the salesperson's desk prepared to negotiate, I watched a young girl and her dad start looking at the car. Then she opened the door and sat in it. I immediately said "what's that girl doing in MY car", and instantly surrendered all bargaining power, lol.

I didn't care. That car was the love of my life for 12 years. Sitting in the driveway cleaning the teeny tiny wheel spokes with tiny brushes, parking a mile away from any other car, etc. By far the most fun I have ever had driving, and so stunningly gorgeous I wouldn't even drive it without putting make up on, lol. Sodium vapor lights made it even more beautiful. Sometimes I'd come out of store and see it parked under the lights, and couldn't believe it was mine.

Never any issue with engine, only with the body in later years (especially when I moved to the shore). Never once broke down on me or didn't start when I put the key in the engine. And despite me leaving traffic lights like I was at a race track (so fun, felt like I was in a rocket ship), and sometimes driving over 100 on the Turnpike in the middle of the night when no cars were around (I wasn't going anywhere, I would get on the highway just to do that), I never got a ticket in it.

After that car, I still bought used cars for similar reason. That is, the new cars I could afford, I didn't love. I have always been able to find used cars that I loved and could afford though.

I, just me, have never owned a brand new car.

As part of a marital unit, we've owned 2 band new vehicles.

At any rate, 6 of the 10 vehicles I have purchased over my lifetime have been new.
I've have purchased 5 cars. The first 3 were new.

I've never bought a new car on my own. My husband bought one (a Toyota pickup) before we were married, and we bought one (a Nissan pickup) together after we were married.

I have lost track of the number of used cars we have bought. My husband is a mechanic and buys cars all the time. Maybe 30 or 35 in total? I had a list, but recently lost it, which upsets me. We need to try to recreate it. We currently own 11, all BMWs.
