4 out of 5 have been new. I’m not opposed to used cars AT ALL, but the 4 new cars that I bought worked out to be a better deal than an equivalent used model, i.e., like $2,000 more for brand new vs two years old with 30,000 miles. I keep my cars for a long time so the depreciation when you drive off the lot doesn’t bother me. My last car purchase (new) was in 2016, so I can’t speak to the current market.
I also still have the vehicle I bought used, a Jeep Wrangler.
Our first new car was a 2002 VW Jetta 1.8T, which had ECM failures, repeatedly. It was a fantastic car, I loved it... but it was lemon-lawed, and Volkswagen replaced it with a 2004 VW New Beetle Convertible directly from the factory (so... second new car). Both of those were for my wife.
The first new car specifically for me was a 2006 Pontiac Solstice that I special ordered and picked up in December of 2005. Incidentally, I ended up with the first Solstice in Fort Lauderdale. It was like being famous (I hated it). I couldn't go anywhere without people crowding my car. Every stop light, people would jump out of their car with flip phones to take pictures of it. Everyone tried to race me, and people thought I was some spoiled teenager because at the time I was 27, but looked like I was 16. I had multiple strangers ask me if "daddy" had bought me the car for Christmas. Didn't matter that I was 27 years old, and the car was only $21,900 off the lot (which I financed most of), and I'd been living on my own since I was 18... hahah.
Sorry... anyway, I did love that car. But every car before then, and after then, has been a used car. I keep thinking about getting a new car, and... if I don't mind saying, I could pay cash for a brand new Jaguar or Porsche if I wanted to... but it just doesn't make financial sense. I can get a used car that's 3-4 years old... with less than 30k miles on it, and it's basically brand new.

I think the “new vs used” equation can vary based on the kind of vehicle you’re buying. My last purchase was a new 2016 RAM 1500 Laramie that I negotiated heavily on. It got to the point where I negotiated about $10K off of MSRP, and that brought the price of the brand new truck pretty much in line with equivalent used 2-3 year-old trucks that had more miles on them and weren’t new. However, I know this isn’t the case for every vehicle, and this may be a bit outdated since things have changed since 2016.

My favorite cars over the years have been my 73 Super Beetle that I bought in maybe 96-97, and my 95 Toyota Celica that I bought for $400 in 2008 or so and drove until 2020.
4 so far. New one next year hopefully! This supply chain situation is ridiculous with cars. And I've had 3 used cars, but haven't had one since 2005. I wrack up a lot of miles and got tired of the repairs. I was spending more than a car payment every month on repairs plus the time sitting waiting at repair centers and tow trucks. That got OLD real quick.
