Not sure if it was mentioned in any early post but the K & N air filters that have the filter oil sprayed on them will pick up a lot of dust from the air including the minute particles a person may see thru the sunlight.
Drive your car w/o any air filter of any kind installed and eventually the engine will need NEW piston rings or pistons for that matter.Amazing how those dust/air particles can eat the ring grooves on a piston.....as a mechanic have seen the results.
My personal opinion is that the old style oil bath air filter was/is the best filter system for any engine.
We/I used to use the old engine oil for some miles and run a screwdriver thru the bottom and you will find out how well the oil bath filter works. The car will still run fairly well whereas todays paper air filters will get clogged up and gas mileage will suffer due to restricted air intake.
Older people here and old mechanics know what I am referring too.....the younger generation have NO idea or experience.
