My experience has been positive with last-year-of-the-run vehicles.
Bargains usually can be had, the maker is looking at the successor and getting rid of old stock is a priority. Thus, prices generally are good.
I bought a 1991 Camry in August or September 1991, those cars demanded a premium a few years previously but I paid $12,000 which was pretty reasonable for that car and time.

That's not whats happening here. GM is replacing them with the new front wheel drive Acadia. The Envoys aren't as fuel efficient as the new Acadias so that's why they are being discontinued, but they're far from being "crappy".

Exactly - that said, newer is almost always better. Even a new Acadia will have good deals in 6 months due to the pice of gas - its just a product no one wants and there's more supply than demand. Even an Envoy is a good truck though, its just 1 gen older technology.

Personally, its the new GM trucks that I'd want to be in - they are much nicer all around.

I've never seen a new car, or truck, on sale with that much of a discount. That's 50% off the retail price.
I just purchased a 2008 Nissan Quest 3.5 S minivan for almost 40-50% off over the weekend ($17,100 + TTT). This model is also rumored to be at the end of its model design too. If you can get a good enough discount, just enjoy it.

What you can do is buy an '08 Envoy with about 6k miles in the beginning of '09. That way the sucker who bought it with ''incentives'' gets stuck with the initial (most dramatic) depreciation. With 6k miles, it doesn't matter if there was any maintenance done on it. As long as it starts up cold w/o any noises and shifts/drives good, go for it!!! I did this in '03 with my current car, which still runs like a champ. It had one warranty repair, one repair I did myself, and now has 107k miles.
