If you were out looking to buy a car to replace your daily driver, what features would you expect in your new vehicle?
I chose:
* Power steering - do any cars not have this?
* Power windows - Never drove a car without them, would hate to have to go around the car rolling all the windows up when somebody forgets. Though they do tend to lock up, not a problem with manual windows.
* Power door locks - Again, I'd hate to have to manually unlock all the doors or lock them all up
* Power mirrors - I really like this feature - no having to adjust the mirrors manually while driving.
* Cruise control - I would hate not having cruise. I love it! Nothing like a long drive down the interstate - just set your cruise control and enjoy yourself (and be attentive, of course)!
* Air conditioning - This one isn't a real biggie up here, but it's nice to have. Do any current models in the U.S. not have it?
* AM/FM Radio with GOOD reception - Very important. I love seeing how far away I can pick up radio stations. There's a rush you get when tuning into a station 200 miles away on FM, and it's nice to listen to WBBM up here in Duluth on a cold winter night driving home. However, many cars have circuitry that produces a lot of noise on the AM band.
* Sound system - Not essential, but I like my bass.
* All-wheel drive - I accidentally selected this one. I'd love a car with AWD for the snow around here, though, but they're too hard to find.
* Tachometer - Very important! I love knowing what rate my engine is spinning at.
* Fuel efficiency display - Also very important! Unfortunately I do not have one.
* Outdoor thermometer - My last car had this and it actually seemed accurate, my new one doesn't and I miss it.
* Highway gas mileage over 25 mpg - I'd prefer one at least in the 30's (my current car gets 26 - 30+ mpg depending on the load and speeds driven), but beggars can't be choosers.
* Multiple power ports - Nice for plugging things in. What would really be cool would be a 110V AC outlet so I wouldn't need an inverter.
I voted for what I think is used everyday but the last car purchased had almost everything you listed:
Heated seats
Tri-zone airconditioning (right and left / Front and back)
DVD Player
Navigation
AM/FM/Satellite radio/MP3 hook up
Power steering/power brakes/antilock brakes/traction control
All wheel drive
Front/side/ curtain air bags
Thermometer
Trip computer
Address book
Sunglass holder
Voice activated controls
Electronic controls on the Steering wheel (AC/Stereo/cruise control)
Multiple power ports
Keyless entry
It doesn't have cooled seats which is really helpful in Florida.
Power steering -- I said yes, but I had a car without power steering (2nd Gen RX-7) and it had by far the best steering feel I've ever felt.
Power seats -- I said no -- but I do expect deep seat bolsters that hold me in during hard cornering
Seating for more than five people -- definitely not, in fact, I wish my four-seater (more of a 2+2) was only a two-seater... next car is a two-seater
Cruise control -- I do use it sometimes and appreciate having it
Entertainment center (with TV, DVD, etc.) -- no, cars are for driving
Navigation system -- I don't expect it, but most of the in-dash systems I've seen have screens at least four times bigger than my Garmin; on the other hand, my Garmin is nicely portable -- I've even used it many times on my bicycle and while walking
Tachometer -- absolutely essential, I pay more attention to it than the speedo
High ground clearance -- I expect LOW ground clearance
Gas mileage over 25 mpg highway -- I very rarely drive on the highway, but 25 sounds like a good round figure (I'm averaging 24 in backroad commuting and red light-riddled boulevard driving)
Not on the list:
Armrest -- I dismissed a couple of cars while shopping because they had inadequate or absent armrests
Yessssss
Thank gawd, no more commercials.
I love my Sirius.
