I like fullsize, rear drive, solid metal bumpered American cars, pre-1990.
The Caprice is one of my favorites from the 80's. Old muscle cars are sweet too.
My grandpa's 1957 Oldsmobile got 20 mpg on the highway, even pushing over 4000 lbs with a 371 cu. in V8. Almost no SUV's can do that, not even the small ones that weigh close to 3000 lbs and powered by a small V6.
I also like fullsize American trucks. Style-wise I like anything up to the mid 90's but for reliability I much prefer the pickups that were made before fuel injection.
(Not that I dislike fuel injection, but around that time they started lightening up some of the components, especially on 4wd's to make them more "car-like", which in turn made them too easy to break)
I probably won't be buying any vehicles that really appeal to me anytime soon, since I live in the Rust Belt and in the city with an already full garage and driveway.
exhdo1... Yes I recall Caroll being there as well,,,I've always wanted to do a a real kit car too. Me and a buddy built a FiberFab car back in the late 60's (in retrospec it was terrible
if you are close to PA go to the kit car show every spring (mid may) at Carslie PA.. I go nearly every year...fun weekend looking at car buffs handy work. Here's the link to this years show
My Fav the 300 P3's that in the beginning beat the Ford GT-40s. (Before Henry got REALLY PO'ed and thru ALL the companies assests at them )
here's a link to some 330 P3 pics. BTW...there's a compnay in England that makes a kit for these things also..Check out the engine...serious stuff going on there
Toyota Tacoma 4x4 here, and agreed never would own another truck than Toyota-worth the money. But we are in the mountains, on dirt roads and we need something to "get us out" if we need to get out. For regular driving, and better gas milage, Honda CRV.
To the Ridgeline question, PLEASE look at the Tacoma, or Tundra if you need a "real heavy-duty" truck. Ridgelines costs just as much if not more, and Tacoma/Tundra are just sooooooooo much more of a truck!
Ford Ranger, short bed, bucket seats, posi rear-end, dual exhaust refitted with a 302(5.0) High Performance Engine! Nothin' but top-end speed!
I've always had a truck growing up, true 'truck-man' through and through. I don't care for the fancy 'car-trucks' they have out there though. (Lincoln Blackwood..etc.)
I want a minivan with the seats that can come out or fold in. I don't like trucks but I want the convenience of being able to transport large items. I would ideally get a Toyota or Honda. Also it would need to have a sunroof.
For me, cars hold little interest. I'm not impressed by BMW's, Mercedes, Lexus, any of them. They don't even move me an iota. I never have been interested in luxury cars or sports cars.
However... I love trucks!!!!! I don't trust Ford or Chevrolet or any American made trucks, but I have had two Toyota trucks and I've had great luck with both of them. My current truck I bought new off the lot in July of 1998 and it's a Toyota Tacoma 4x2 basic light truck 2WD. It's been an excellent vehicle for me, completely reliable and it's still in almost perfect condition.
But...
I am finding myself wanting to trade that in in the next year and buy a new Toyota Tacoma 4X4 2dr. Access Cab truck! I don't want a four-door cab..that's too big a truck and I don't need it. But a 2dr. access cab would work as I could stick people in the back in the extra seats if need be and still have enough truck bed. Plus, the new liners are exceptional.
I've spent a good portion of time trying to locate them at dealers just to take an in person look, but most of them don't stock it because it's $22,000 MSRP instead of $30,000 I suppose...
I'll wait of course until I have the ready cash as I don't want a car payment, so it won't happen till maybe late 2008..but that's just in time to trade in what will then be a ten year old Tacoma too!
What vehicle do you want?
Ain't she purty?
Hey MoMark, If your gonna buy one of those new fangled foreign trucks don't buy one with the special odometer thats adds miles to your vehicle As far as the 22K truck, if you can't find one ask the dealer to order it and have it built. Remember the good old days when you went to a dealer told him exactly what you wanted and waited 6 to 8 weeks for your new car. I know that idea gives dealers chills (obviously they want to sell from their floor plan) but I would think that's still an option.
