There was an unGodly long list of vehicles my parents are thinking about getting in the next month, I finally told them I'd get some information on what they're looking at and get back to them. They currently have an '08 Lexus LS460 that they're going to trade off and they haven't quite decided what they want to trade off to!

Basic list of vehicles they're looking at (new):

Buick Lacrosse CXS
Cadillac CTS 3.6L
Ford Taurus SHO
Lexus LS460
Nissan Maxima 3.5 SV

I realize it's an odd range of vehicles but I guess that's what dad picked out as interested in. They like their '08 LS but I think he wants to see what else the market has.

Opinions?

The LaCrosse was cited on JD Powers as the best of this group.

^ Good point...but for me there is just something about a Cadillac. But I agree with you.

My dad has always been a Chevy man till he drove a Taurus. He's 88 years old, driving his second Taurus, and, for some reason, he's thinking about trading for another new Taurus!

Except that JD Powers ratings are nearly useless.

Why trade for a new LS? Did they change much in three model years? Everything else on that list is a step down, and for no benefit that I can see, if he's still interested in a new LS. For instance, if he was considering a CTS-V, then that's a step down in quality and refinement, but a hell of a lot more fun to drive than an LS. That's a step down that makes some sense. But the other cars on that don't offer any advantage that I can see, and all are definitely not in the same class as an LS. Witht hte LS as the current and possibly new benchmark, nothing else on that list makes sense to me.

I'd suggest that he determines what he wants in a new car, and go from there. That's probably not news to you.
