I see a lot of early 2000's Landrover Discovery SUV's being sold used for only a few thousand bucks, often under $5000. Why is that? Are they complete junk? Comparable year Lexuses are going for at least double.

Because they are fairly unreliable vehicles that "the magic" wears off of quickly, so they devalue at an exponential rate.

A few thousand bucks for an early 2000 Land Rover is way over priced.

Rover was OK but a gas eater until about 1998 when BMW bought it. They made real progress until it was sold to Ford. They made a mess and finally made the Discovery a Bronco. I had a 95 when I lived on the coast in California because the body is Aluminum and won't rust.

They probably cost a lot to fix. I wouldn't have one.

Yeah... I know a couple of people with them that were bought cheap.

Even the more upscale Range Rovers are selling cheap these days... even the 90s models. They are super costly to maintain and have issues. My cousin has one and it has had some costly issues. I think its a 1999. It sets in her driveway while she drives her 2006 Lincoln.
