I love my new big car, a 2009 Lexus LS 460. My husband laughs at me because I am short 5'3 getting out of my big car.

Yeah, my mom (just under 5') once drove a '74 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.
It was a truly big car (130" wheelbase, 230.7"/19.2 feet long, 80" wide, 5,200 lbs) which looked even bigger when parked next to 16- and 17-foot long cars.

She looked very small when she was behind the wheel, but wouldn't want to drive any other car and I didn't blame her.

I had an '87 Caprice that I picked up for $1,000 in '01 and drove for 5 years and 100,000 miles. It was a great car that served me well. It had 220,000 miles on it when I sold it and it's still kicking today. I just saw it a couple weeks ago driving around. I kinda miss it.

I love my 93 Cadillac Eldorado. It is not a "big car" in the true sense of the word but it is one of the last full-sized two-door cars. I have never owned anything except two-door cars and I probably never will. It is almost impossible to even find two-door cars now days, let alone full sized ones. (And SUVs)

I wish the car manufacturers would smarten up and offer a nice two-door full sized car in the US (There are some in Europe).

OK, I have been reading this for a bit. I appreciate that folks like big cars.

I just have to weigh in with my preference for small cars.

The land yachts that have been mentioned are surely fine cars for leisurely drives to the chapel or the cemetery, but I like to actually experience the driving experience. To feel the road, to have finite control over the direction my vehicle takes, to be able to avoid an obstacle rather than plow over it.

Again, before I get flamed for my opinion, I am just offering a different point of view.

Oh, I did love the 'utility' of my high school sweetie's Buick 225's back seat.

Yes, as you mentioned, some like big cars, some like small cars. Some like both!

However, some of those big cars ("land yachts") handle better than many would guess. Also, I have driven my two ('69 Fleetwood & '76 Limousine) Cadillacs at a not-so-leisurley 95-100 mph!

Not arguing here, but I would offer a friendly challenge of a race, up or down my local mountain road. My GTI vs. your 'boat'. Loser buys the beer!

I like small cars too - just for putting around in. I'd buy a two-door Yaris or SmartCar in a heart-beat, but I don't hardly think of them as "real cars", they are just kind of like big toys. LOL
