Iwent to the mitsubishi dealership in Anderson SC They got me financing for a new car no problem there but 8 days later they called me to bring the car back up there without an explanation so when i got there they said that i would have to put my car in my boyfriends name or return it because of some other loans i have out. They also offered him a trade on his car. still no problem but they told him we could still use the tag off my old car that i was going to transfer the tag from on the car im driving even though the car is no longer in my name is this legal can they actually do that?

Read the contract. Likely has a clause about pending finance approval.

Because of reasons like this, it is always best to obtain a loan through a private bank (usually the one you have been banking with for a while). Then find a car you like and negotiate a deal before letting them know about the pre=approved loan.

Yes, they can do this if there is a clause in the contract as notnamed mentioned.

Don't put your car in your boyfriend's name. Then the car will be his.

Dealer can't finance you and are trying to get your BF in the hook.

Best advice I can give you is hand them the keys back, get in your car or your BF car and drive away.

Wisest suggestion. Otherwise, it's crap to pile up like a mountain.

This is the correct answer, and the only thing you should consider. Getting the car in your boyfriends name is just asking for trouble. Added to the fact that you are looking at a Mitsubishi. There is no way I would consider a new Mitsu now. You are better off looking at a used Hyundai/Kia

Is this really that bad, though? If they split, he gets stuck with whatever crapbox Mitsubishi still puts out in the USA.

But, yeah OP, you didn't qualify on your own. Sorry.

Put some serious miles on the new vehicle before giving it back

Don't forget they must give you back any money you put down on the car too. Or your trade in back. If you had one.
