I didn't realize a $2 can of brake cleaner and a $.75 plug gapper is considered throwing parts at a car.
An engine breaks up due to bad spark. It has nothing to do with your muffler bearings, headlamp fluid, or your fogged windows. If you have a gap too big, you'll get a big spark, but it'll blow out easily. If the gap is too small, you won't get enough spark to ignite the air and fuel mixture.
It'll take 2 mins to pull out one spark plug to look at the condition of it.
Here is my opinion on the spark plug issue. This is only a 4 cylinder car, so if you remove the plugs, you might as well replace them. Spark plugs are cheap, so there is no use in cleaning them.
