Hello. I am thinking about moving to Baltimore in Pikesville which I think is very nice. After reviewing the job boards I get the feeling most of the jobs I want would be in the DC or VA area. (I am looking for a recruiting position with a staffing or technology firm)
So my question is, how long does it take to commute from Pikesville to DC? And any idea what the train would cost and where is the nearest station? Thanks!

If you were going to downtown DC, the commute would be well over an hour. Check Google maps for the specifics. If you were going to Bethesda, Rockville or Gaithersburg, the commute would be a little more tolerable. The trains into DC leave from Penn Station or Camden Yard, both at least 45 minutes from Pikesville. MTA train schedules and prices available here: https://www.mta.maryland.gov/quick-schedule-links#marc The fare from Penn Station would be $8 one way per day, with some discounts for monthly passes. It would be a total of an hour and 40 minutes to get from Pikesville to Union Station in DC. I'd consder that unacceptably long.

If you want to live in Pikesville, I suggest looking into tech firms like Lockheed-Martin or Computer Sciences which work with SSA or CMMS government locations in Woodlawn/Windsor Mill. There are also a few tech firms in Hunt Valley which work with government electronics and more firms in the Columbia/Fort Meade/airport areas. These typically require clearances.

I would totally forget working in Virginia, if you want to live in Pikesville.

Unfortunately the commute would be anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half, both ways. you'll be heading straight into rush hour traffic both ways, so the commute can be quite tough. It may pay to look into places closer to DC like Bethesda, Columbia or Silver Spring.

From pikesville there is a close train station down Reistertown road near painters mill rd that you can take

If the original poster is looking for a Jewish community like there is in Pikesville, they could try the Kemp Mill area of Silver Spring.
