Well we did it. I found land/lot yesterday after months of going over data from the realator and the web sites. We are retired Air Force in Germany (I am from Maine) so doing everything long distance is daunting at times. I happened to have a business trip back to the states so did a side trip up here went over some lots with the realtor and finally decided on what we wanted and am in the process of closing the deal.

We are planning on moving back July of 2009 and now are moving forward on looking for a good reputable builder. Any inputs on good builders in the Bangor area would be most welcomed.

Here in Bangor until Friday .... love the snow... not so thrilled on the freezing rain though LOL.

Glad you made it back! You can leave Maine but Maine never leaves you. Good luck in your search!

Though I do not know and reputable builders in the Bangor area, I will be moving to the area in late spring or early summer 2008. I am a humble carpenter/contractor in NH with a many creditable references and will be looking for a project. (am I allowed to say that here) DM me if you would like any info. Best of luck in your move!

Excellent!

That sounds good!

I know a local foundation contractor, a well driller, and a site work contractor. I would readily recommend each of these guys.

And I know one General Contractor that is a fellow member of the VFW. I have not seen his work, so I can not testify to the quality or speed.

DM me if you want any of these guy's information.

Good luck

Well yesterday our offer was accepted on the land and I ran around taking care of contracts, mortgage paperwork etc. This morning I have one builder (McClaughin) that I am meeting with for an informal meeting at the land before heading over to the airport to catch a flight back to Germany. I will most likely DM those that have offered when I get back to Germany and thanks to those who have offered. (thanks folks) A busy crazy trip back to the states but so benificial. We feel that we have a long way to go before the summer of 2009 but I am sure it will go by quickly with taking care of the house stuff.

It will be good to get "home" but it has been so great to be back in Maine (have managed 3 times in the last 6 months) we can't wait to be back...... even in the cold weather.

Shannon Giles is a reputable builder in the Bangor area, and easy to work with, too.
