So it goes. Astros lost in 10 innings, 9 to 7. Pitching didn't show up today. Still had a good chance to win with game tied in bottom of the ninth, bases loaded with one out. So of course the batter hit into a double play.
That's what would have happened a couple nights ago if not for Jake's helmet. In that situation, I would be very tempted to pull a suicide squeeze. But batters have no clue how to bunt these days.

No doubt about it; the bunt is pretty much a lost art. Showing my age, I was a kid when the Dodgers were in Vero Beach FL for spring training. Bunting was a big part of their game in the early 60s; it seemed like everyone could lay one down if needed.
Not when the Astros suddenly lose again. That Friday night travesty against Seattle gives more fuel to make serious moves at the trade deadline.
They are reminding me of a few decades ago where they would play like zombies, then get hot and suck everyone into believing only to return to zombie state. Losing 3 of 4 at home to the Mariners to close out the first half is pathetic.

They're going to need some help at the trade deadline. Dana Brown needs to make a statement deal.

I think their issues run too deep to be resolved with a trade or two. They have too many people injured but worse they have too many people underperforming. Bregman needs to raise his BA 30 points, JP needs to play like last year, Javier needs to pitch like he did until 2 or 3 starts ago, the bullpen across the board has lost their confidence.
I think Dusty needs to go. I don't want to hear how he "led" us anywhere. And especially don't want to hear how the manager isn't the one hitting or pitching poorly. He wasn't the one hitting or pitching well last year, either. The manager's real job is to build team confidence and motivate players to perform at their peak. He isn't doing that. This team too often looks lost and confused. You can just feel it. No lead is too safe and down by only a few runs feels hopeless. Baseball is a streaky game but as soon as a guy gets hot Dusty shuts them down.
