Really good outing last night for the Angels' pitcher Wade Leblanc vs. the Athletics. He went 5 1/3 innings of shut-out pitching. He filled in for the injured Matt Shoemaker (oblique). With pitcher Garret Richards not available until next Spring Training, at the earliest, and Shoemaker iffy for the ALDS, LeBlanc might find some innings during the playoffs. The Angels starting pitching could be running on fumes heading into the ALDS.

-Cheers.
A's mounting a furious comeback in 7th inning.
This is a great time of year for watching tense games of teams one doesn't normally follow.
Three errors by the A's leading to two unearned runs...in a one run loss.
Even if Oakland survives and makes it to the wild card, it is hard to have any confidence in their post season chances, they have been playing horribly for the last six weeks.
Looked it up...the A's hit more than twice as many home runs (98) before the All Star break as they have since. (46)
The A's greatest weapon these days is the fact that the Mariners have decided to stage an 11th hour collapse.

The Athletics will make it to the playoffs.
The playoffs are a start to a "new" season. Everything that happened before that point goes out the window. In the playoffs, teams have to take it pitch by pitch, inning by inning, game by game. This is the part of the season, other than the first week of the season, where there is some degree of parity.

That sounds a lot like what the managers of weak teams in the post season always say. You know, stay within themselves, don't try to do too much, don't worry about what the other guys are doing, play hard for nine innings, give 110% and anything can happen etc .
The A's are staggering into the post season having endured six weeks of getting beaten bloody and stupid by nearly everyone. They start with a fresh slate in the post season, but they will not be starting with a whole lot of confidence in themselves. A month and a half of .330 ball will do that to a team.

Things aren't looking all that rosy for your Giants either!
Can't wait to welcome SF to PNC Park, where Bucs are an NL-leading 51-30.
Bumgarner isn't the only pitcher who can get an XBH for a key RBI.
Tied the game at the time, but was rendered retroactively superfluous since it is 9-1 in the bottom of the ninth. Assuming SF doesn't stage an 8 run rally, Kershaw will finish 21-3, 1.77 ERA, 239 strikeouts with just 31 walks.
His 11 k's tonight shoves him into the league lead, but Cueto and Stasburg are only four behind and both have starts left, Cueto on Sunday, Strasburg on Saturday. That will probably keep Kershaw from winning the pitcher's triple crown of wins, ERA and k's. (Strasburg probably will get pulled early to rest him for the post season, but there is no reason Cueto won't go as far as he can.)
It is over now, LA has clinched. Brewers won so SF magic number for the wild card remains 1.
LA wins the season series against the Giants, 10 games to 9. Greinke and Kershaw combined to go 8-0 against them.
Brewers lost today, eliminating themselves, so the Giants have backed into one of the NL wild card spots. They didn't even get to celebrate, they play tonight at 7 pm and weren't even at the ballpark at 12:50 pm Pacific time when they clinched.
