IMO, baseball actually has the fairest and most efficient playoff system. The WC teams are disadvantaged, usually having to waste their best pitcher before the LDS starts, then facing the top team. A five game LDS lets each division winner use their top pitcher twice. No need to go to seven games.
While the second WC has opened up the playoffs to more teams, thus creating greater interest in more cities, the net result is that it underscores the need to win the division to gain a competitive advantage, unlike the other major sports.
Exactly. And there weren't any wildcards either. 2 teams from each league made the playoffs.
How is a team like the Rockies supposed to start their season earlier than the first week of April and expect it to be baseball weather? They normally get a few snowed out games anyway, if the season were to start earlier, they would be at such a disadvantage.

We're talking 2 games. So they would start the season say 3 days earlier. Not much of a difference.

We're talking 2 games over the course of 4 series. And they only like to have 2 games a day, most of the time, so those 2 extra games per series would necessitate an additional 5-8 days added on to the Divisional round (to include travel days).

Just utilize a 2-3-2 game setup (bolded would be extra scheduled games)

Best of 5 makes it more exciting. It would give the Tigers the opportunity to start all 3 Cy Young winners a second time in the series, perhaps on short rest. It creates a disadvantage for teams with an ace who messes up. It penalized the Phillies, as it should have, for Cliff Lee screwing up Game 2 in the NLDS vs. St. Louis. It also would give the Wild Card winner a better chance to regroup after throwing their ace in the Wild Card.
It weeds out the teams that don't really deserve to be in the running for the WS.
