Arrieta is also a Boras client and that it is just a three year deal adds to the picture of Boras' declining power. Along with Moustakas, Boras also represented Carlos Gonzalez who has inked a one year, 8 million dollar contract to stay with Colorado. Before he turned free agent, the Rockies had offered Gonzalez a three year 45 million dollar deal, which was declined at the advice of Boras. The one big Boras win so far has been Eric Hosmer who got an eight-year, $144 million deal....which the Padres are probably regretting in light of what the market has been since that signing.
I'm so glad the Arrieta deal is short term and front loaded. I was worried all offseason that the Phils would commit 5 years and an expensive option to Arrieta (like they did for Howard and Lee). Arrieta's productivity is currently on the bubble. The Phils have the cash and payroll space to take a risk, even if it proves to be a mistake. Losing the second and third round draft picks (as well as international spending money) and draft budget will hurt, though (They lose a pick for Santana as well as Arrieta.). They need to go all-in on best player available with their third pick overall in the first round. Their total draft philosophy they've been using the last few years won't be applicable this year, as they won't be able to spread around money that's not available. Maybe they'll select a can't miss stud for a change, instead of just a 'skills' talent.
All over/under lines are made up, none have any "reality."
That you think that they do is why Las Vegas makes so much money.
At any point in this nonsense has it dawned on you that we actually have no disagreement? We both have stated that we think the Rays will win at leat 63 games. You seem to be arguing with yourself.
No disagreement? Nice try. 63, 77.5, six of one, half a dozen of the other.... wrong.
Your 63 number was contrived by you to make you look smart for picking the "over".
Vegas picked 77.5 wins as the number that will invite an equal number of bets for each side of that number. Their number is a reality. 63 is a self-serving fantasy that you thought nobody here would catch.
I will agree that there is no argument here. You lost that a long time ago.
The Minnesota Twins (American League) have signed right-handed pitcher Lance Lynn to a one-year, $12,000,000 deal. Lynn previously played for the Saint Louis Cardinals (National League).
