I agree that SLC should consider this. They have an aggressive new ballpark community proposal online right now, but still a work in progress. Putting the Athletics in Salt Lake City would put an American League team in the Mountain Time Zone for the first time and they won't even have to leave the AL West. Fisher does need to look at this and forget Vegas.
Any host city should set a payroll minimum so he can't do what he's done to Oakland - pocket the revenue sharing checks and not invest it back into team. I'll bet that would be a major stumbling block to any agreement.
And he wants to move from the nation's 10th largest media market to the 40th. They will have even less of a home field advantage than the Raiders in that city of transients.
But yeah, I'm all for him having to sell the team to someone who actually wants to win, even if its not in Oakland.

All one has to do is look at the dismal attendance numbers for the A's in Oakland and nothing more need to be said.
The most important thing to an owner is filling seats (regardless of who the people in those seats are rooting for). And for that reason, Vegas is an excellent location.
Best case scenario: Much like the Washington Nationals, this team isn’t going anywhere, so hopefully the few veterans they acquired this winter (Ross Stripling, J.D. Davis, and Alex Wood) can get traded for future assets that help the team moving forward whether it be Oakland, Las Vegas, Sacramento, or somewhere else.
Worst case scenario: The veterans perform so poorly that nobody even wants the at the deadline.
Prediction: Estuary Ruiz gets regular playing time, gets on base more, and steals over 100 bases. It doesn’t matter as the team finishes last in the division with a 55-107 record. First of 4 home games against the Guardians starts on Thursday: Shane Bieber (6-6, 3.80 last year) starts for the Guardians while the A’s hand the ball to Wood (5-5, 4.33 in ’22 for the Giants) with first pitch scheduled for 10:07.

I'd like to know what this organization is doing. Estuary Ruiz who had 67 steals (and would probably have way more if he reached base more) started this year with an OPS over 1.000, and in the early going one of the better players the organization had at the MLB level, and they sent him down?? Reading this yesterday I thought it was an April's Fools joke as first.
They lost 3 of 4 to the Guardians the first series and committed what seemed like 50 errors and base-running blunders and then lost the opening game to Boston last night.

Tyler Freeman had a double in the 2nd to put Cleveland up 1-0. In the 4th Andres Gimenez singled, Austin Hedges reached on an infield single with Freeman scoring on an error, Brayan Rocchio had a 2 run double to make it 6-0, and Jose Ramirez had a RBI triple in the 9th and he scored on a David Fry sac fly for the last run of the game. Steven Kwan was 1-5 with a run scored, Ramirez was 1-5 with a RBI and run scored, Josh Naylor was 1-3 with a run scored, Fry was 3-4 with 2 runs scored an a RBI, Freeman was 2-4 with a RBI and run scored, Gimenez was 1-3 with a RBI and run scored, Hedges finished 1-4 with a RBI and run scored, and Rocchio was 1-3 with 2 RBI’s. Shane Bieber (1-0) had 1 walk, 4 hits allowed and 11 strikeouts in 6 scoreless innings. JJ Bleday was the only A’s player with multiple hits as he finished 2-4 on the day. Alex Wood (0-1) allowed 6 runs on 7 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Game 2 of the 4 game series is on Friday: Logan Allen (7-8, 3.81 in ’23) starts for the Guardians while Ross Stripling (0-5, 5.36 last year across the Bay in San Fran) makes his Oakland debut with game time slated for 9:40. In West action on opening night the Mariners lost to the Red Sox 4-6, The Rangers walked off the Cubs 5-4 in 10, the Astros lost to the Yankees 4-5, and the Angels lost to the Orioles 3-11. The Rangers were the only team in the division that won so they are 1-0 and in first; the Mariners, A’s, Astros and Angels are all tied at 0-1 and 1 back.

Jose Ramirez homered with 1 out in the first to put Cleveland up 2-0, and later in the inning Josh Naylor scored on a balk. J.D. Davis got a run back in the 4th with a home run before Andres Gimenez had a RBI double and Will Brennan added a RBI single for a 5-1 lead. Estuary Ruiz had a sac fly in the 5th, and Davis added his second home run of the night in the 6th to cut the lead to 5-3. Gimenez added another RBI double in the 7th before Shea Langeliers added the 4th A’s run and final run of the day on an 8th inning sac fly. Steven Kwan was 2-5 with 2 runs scored, Gimenez finished 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s, Ramirez was 1-5 with a run scored 2 RBI’s and a run scored with a home run, Naylor was 2-5 with a run scored, and Brennan was 1-4 with what turned out to be the game-winning RBI. Logan Allen (1-0) allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (2 home runs) with 3 strikeouts in 5 innings, Eli Morgan (1st hold), Hunter Gaddis (1st hold) and Scott Barlow (1st hold) combined for 1 run on 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in 3 hitless innings and Emmanuel Clase (1st save) allowed 2 hits in 1 inning for his first save of the year. Estuary Ruiz went 1-2 with a RBI, Seth Brown scored a run as a pinch runner, Davis was 2-4 with 2 home runs, Langeliers was 2-3 with a RBI, and Nick Allen was 2-4 with a run scored. Ross Stripling (0-1) allowed 5 runs (4 earned) in 5 innings (1 home run) with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Series continues on Saturday. Tanner Bibee (10-4, 3.98 in ’23) starts for the Guardians while J.P. Sears (5-14, 4.54 last year) starts for the A’s with game time slated for 4:07. In other division action on the day: The Mariners beat the Red Sox, and the Astros lost to the Yankees. Zack Gelof had a 1 out ground-rule double in the first but Tanner Bibee got JJ Bleday and Brent Rooker to strike out to end the inning. Tyler Freeman had a 1 out walk, Andres Gimenez put Cleveland on top with a triple and he scored on a Gabriel Arias infield single to put Cleveland up 2-0. J.D. Davis had a 1 out walk to open the bottom half, Kyle McCann in his MLB debut drew a walk, Lawrence Butler had a single to left to load the bases, Davis scored on a fielders choice by Nick Allen, and Ryan Noda had a single to score McCann but Allen was thrown out at 3rd to end the inning. Ramon Laureano had a 2 out walk in the 3rd, David Fry followed with a walk, each stole a base but Freeman ended the inning with a pop up. Gelof singled to open the 3rd, stole second and Rooker and Seth Brown followed with walks to load the bases, Davis struck out swinging but McCann drew a bases loaded 2 out walk to put the A’s up 3-2, their first lead of the season before Butler grounded out to end the inning. Gimenez was hit by a pitch to open the 4th inning, he stole second, and scored on an Arias single. Arias would go onto steal second, advanced to 3rd on a throwing error and scored on a sac fly by Austin Hedges to put Cleveland on top for good 4-3. Brayan Rocchio followed with a double, and Steven Kwan made it 5-3 with an RBI single. Noda had a 1 out walk in the 4th, 2 batters later Bleday singled but Rooker struck out to end the inning. Fry walked to lead off the 5th, 2 batters later went to second on a Gimenez ground out, and scored on a throwing error by Nick Allen, and a Hedges double scored Arias to make it 7-3. Kwan, Jose Ramirez, and Will Brennan each had singles to load the bases, Fry followed with a sac fly, Freeman had a single, Fry & Freeman each had a stolen base but Gimenez flied out and Arias struck out to end the inning before Kwan made it 10-3 with a solo home run in the 7th. Brennan walked and Fry was hit by a pitch to start the 8th, Freeman struck out, Gimenez flied out, a wild pitch oved Brennan to 3rd, but Arias ended the inning with a ground out. Rocchio had a 1 out double in the 9th, Kwan walked, Ramirez had a RBI single to make it 11-3, Brennan struck out, Fry had the final RBI of the night on a single to make it 12-3, before Freeman flied out to end the inning. Bibee allowed 3 runs on 6 hits with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts in 4 innings and Nick Sandlin (1-0) had a 1-2-3 inning with 2 strikeouts to pick up the win. JP Sears (0-1) allowed 5 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout in 3.2 innings.
The finale of the 4 game series goes on Sunday. Carlos Carrasco (3-8, 6.80 in 2023) starts for Cleveland in his return to Cleveland after spending the last 3 years with the Mets. The A’s hand the ball to Paul Blackburn (4-7, 4.43 last year) with game time slated for 4:07. In other West action on the day the Angels lost to the Orioles 4-13, the Mariners walked off the Red Sox in extra innings 4-3, the Astros lost to the Yankees 1-7, and the Rangers beat the Cubs for the second straight game 11-2. Rangers are 2-0 and remain in first, Mariners are 2-1 and a half game back, Angels are 0-2 and 2 games back, while the A’s and Astros are 0-3 and 2.5 games back.

Well, that was a nice victory to end the weekend! JJ Bleday had a RBI triple in the 1st, he scored on a Seth Brown single, and Bleday put the A’s up 3-0 with a single in the 3rd. Gabriel Arias had a RBI ground out in the 8th to put Cleveland on the board, Andres Gimenez scored on a Nick Allen fielding error, and a Josh Naylor single scored Ramirez to tie the game. The A’s ended the game on a 4 pitch, bases loaded walk to Abraha Toro. Gimenez was 1-5 with a run scored, Jose Ramirez was 0-4 but scored a run, Naylor was 2-4 with a RBI, Ramon Laureano was 2-4, Estevan Florial was 1-3 with a RBI and triple, and Arias was 0-4 but had a RBI. Carlos Carrasco allowed 3 runs on 6 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 5 innings, and Scott Barlow (0-1) allowed 1 run on 2 hits with a walk and a strikeout in 1 inning. Oakland stays at home to continue the homestand against the Red Sox coming in off a split in Seattle. Joe Boyle (2-0, 1.69 in 3 starts last September) starts for the A’s while the Red Sox hand the ball to Tanner Hauck (6-10, 5.01 in ’23) with first pitch scheduled for 9:40. Cleveland swaps places with Boston as they will now head up to the Pacific Northwest to play 3 games in Seattle starting on Monday. In other divisional action on the day the Angels beat the Orioles, the Mariners lost to the Red Sox, the Rangers lost to the Cubs 9-5, and the Astros got swept at home by the Yankees. Rangers are in first at 2-1, Seattle is a half game back at 2-2, Angels are 1 back at 1-2, A’s are 1.5 back at 1-3, and the Astros are 2.5 back at 0-4.

Ceddanne Rafaela had a sac fly in the 2nd which scored 2 runs on an error, Emmanuel Valdez reached on an infield single which scored a run on an error to make it 4-0 in the 3rd, Rafaela added another sac fly for a 5-0 lead, Jarren Duran had a single to make it 6-0, Trevor Story had a 2 run double to make it 8-0, and than in the 6th Masataka Yoshida had a RBI on a fielders choice for the 9-0 lead. JJ Bleday was the only A’s player with multiple hits as he finished 2-3 as the team itself finished with more errors (5) then hits (4). That’s never good! Joe Boyle (0-1) allowed 8 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts in 2.2. Duran finished 3-5 with 2 runs scored and a RBI, Rafael Devers was 0-3 but scored a run, Story was 1-4 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored, Casas was 2-4 with a RBI, Tyler O’Neil was 1-3 with a run scored, Yoshida was 0-3 but had 2 runs scored and a RBI, Valdez was 1-5 with 2 runs scored, and Rafaela was 0-3 but had 2 RBI’s.
Middle game of the series is on Tuesday. Brayan Bello (1-0, 3.60) starts for the Sox against Alex Wood (0-1, 16.20) who takes the ball for the A’s with game time scheduled for 9:40. In other West action on the day the Angels beat the Marlins, the Rangers beat the Rays, the Astros got their first win on the year with a no hitter against the Blue Jays, and the Mariners beat the Guardians. Rangers are 3-1 and in first, Seattle is 3-2 and a half game back, Angels are 2-2 and 1 back, and the Astros and A’s are tied at 1-4 and 2.5 back.

Sox got on the board in the 1st with a Trevor Story double, Jarren Duran singled in the 2nd for a 2-0 lead before Shea Langeliers homered in the bottom half to tie it at 2. Pablo Reyes singled in the top of the 3rd before JJ Bleday put the A’s in front 4-3 with a 2 run homer in the bottom half. Story singled in the 7th to tie the score at 4 and force extras before Wilyer Abreu scored the winning run on a double play ball hit by Tyler O’Neil. Duran went 2-3 with a RBI and run scored, O’Neil went 1-5 with a run scored and didn’t have a RBI, but hit into the double play which gave the Sox the lead, Rafael Devers finished 1-6 with a run scored, Story was 3-5 with 2 RBI’s, Triston Casas was 1-3 with a run scored, and Abreu scored a run as a pinch runner. Bryan Bello allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (2 home runs) with a walk and 6 strikeouts in 5 innings, and Josh Winckowski (1-0) had 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 2 hitless innings. Ryan Noda was 1-5 with a run scored, Bleday was 1-3 with a run scored, 2 RBI’s and a home run, J.D. On Tuesday of this week, the last guests checked out of the Tropicana Hotel (part of the proposed site for the stadium for the A's) in Las Vegas, and it closed.
It doesn't say so in this link, but IIRC from another story, it's the third oldest hotel on any part of the strip:
The Athletics will leave Oakland after this season and temporarily play at a minor league park near Sacramento until their planned new stadium in Las Vegas is built.
The A’s announced the decision to play at the home of the Sacramento River Cats from 2025-27 with an option for 2028 on Thursday after being unable to reach an agreement to extend their lease in Oakland during that time.
