I mean they are expecxted to win every game they play so I think it's more interesting to see a major upset because it always makes a better sports story. I'm all for major sports story and I was so ready to get excited when the USA almost lost last week.

exactly

and if you think the US is expected to win every game - especially at competitions like this when they roll out the non olympic squad - you haven't watched much international basketball over the past decade

A decent topic...

I might agree with the premise in regular sports (although I'm all for the Yanks, Lakers, Heat this coming season, USC Trojans, etc dominating all the time). But for international competition, and OUR SPORT in particular, I'm more than happy and entertained to see our guys win every game by 1000 points if that's what it takes.

It's that easy. They aren't gonna send college kids to play. We're sending the best that wanna go to win.

I'm changing my original idea on this being a decent topic now, because it's just you complaining again...

Yeah, um....the US hasn't won gold at the world championships since 1994.

They haven't even made the finals at the world championships since.....1994.
(Kevin Durant would have been in gradeschool, Bill Clinton was in his first term in office and on this day in 1994 the MTV music awards featured newlyweds Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley. )

They placed 6th in 2002 losing 3 games.

It's single game elimination and the 3pt. line is close in. Upsets can and do happen and there are some tough teams out there that have played together for years.

So, I'm thinking you have just started following international ball....maybe in the last few weeks?

^ really? Who won in 1998, and 2006? Memory's a bit foggy on that. I remember the 2002 debacle though....
