Default Baton Rouge Art Car Parade

Baton Rouge Art Car Parade creates food drive for Baton Rouge Food Bank

Baton Rouge – CultureCandy.org is pleased to announce that everyone’s favorite new event, the Baton Rouge Art Car Parade will join forces with the Baton Rouge Food Bank to help the public vote for their favorite Art Car in the parade on Saturday, April 7, 2007.

The Art Car Parade will roll on Easter Saturday, April 7th, 2007, at 12 noon in downtown Baton Rouge along 4th Street between the State Capitol and the Shaw Center for the Arts.

Begin your day at the Baton Rouge Farmer’s Market and the Baton Rouge Arts Market where you will find several art car artists and their fabulous creations. Then at 11 am, walk over to the State Capital parking lot where the art car artists are making preparations to parade and showing off their artworks/vehicles. The Baton Rouge Food Bank will place barrels next to each car and you can vote for your favorite car by placing a canned good in the barrel. If you miss the voting at the beginning of the parade, just follow the parade to the Shaw Center, where voters may continue to add food to the Food Bank barrels. Just put your canned item in the barrel that represents your favorite car. The car that receives the most “votes” will receive the “People’s Choice Award” which comes with a modest honorarium.

The parade will roll at 12 noon. Be prepared to laugh and smile as you watch this parade of artistically altered vehicles. Over 30 vehicles, created by local and regional artists roll down Fourth Street from the Capitol to the Shaw Center, including bicycles, wagons, and roller skates.

We'd like to offer our thanks to All Star Automotive Group for continuing their second
year of sponsorship for the Baton Rouge Art Car Parade!

If it rolls and it's been augmented, decorated, painted, collaged, sculpted, or covered with something unusual, you'll find it in the Art Car Parade.... Entrees are free and open to our community and out of town guests from other parades. Entry forms can be obtained at http://culturecandy.org, or at Baton Rouge Gallery.

This event is also made possible in part by the following organizations: Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge Area Foundation, Baton Rouge Food Bank, the Louisiana Division of the Arts, LSU Museum of Art at the Shaw Center, Baton Rouge Gallery, Center for Contemporary Arts and the Downtown Development District.

For more information e-mail us at culturecandy@hotmail.com or call at (225)202-0952.

Please join us on Easter Saturday for the Baton Rouge Art Car Parade.
