And as a rule, gas is almost always cheaper.

We will have to have a propane tank. How does that compare to gas cost wise?

Propane is gas.

The gas that is piped into a property is natural gas, the type you are speaking of is LP (liquid Propane).

Efficiency is similar for both gases, the cost per gallon will vary.

Propane will cost more than an electric heat pump, but will be about the same as electric resistive heating or fuel oil. Heat bills will depend on the efficiency of your insulation and the weather. December has been particularly cold in the area, so the heat bill has been higher than normal.

Propane is much higher than Natural gas. Whether it is cheaper than electric depends on the current cost of propane which fluctuates widely.

Here in Colorado where the electric rates are similar, Propane is higher, to heat a similar home. Either gas or electric are expensive. If you own a home on either, a heat pump is really worth considering. There are rebates to cover a large portion of the cost of installation.

With the exception of the bitter cold snap earlier this month the the weather sure has been quiet.

Hope some storms show up soon, ski areas are hurting out there.

Bend continues to have more sunny days than the climate here in VA look forward to moving there soon.

My guess is the economy is already taking a hit. Temps seem to be well above average so not good for an area that is visited for winter weather. High of 56 forecast for tomorrow!

Crazy weather this winter flip flopping from too cold to too hot!

From the Mt Bachelor Nordic center.

Continuing in the vein of "April-esque" days at Nordic, we are starting the the day at 29.5* and looking for highs to reach the mid 40's for yet another super fancy SKIDA fashion headband wearing opportunity! (Great selection in the shop while supplies last!) Incoming clouds late in the day may bring a couple hours of warmish precipitation, more of a bother than anything, as we continue our deliberate efforts to provide the best sliding possible in the Middles and Uppers. Conditions are improving daily.

Propane in our 5th wheel (400 sq ft.) ran $400 a month. switched it to Natural gas and it was Under $20.00 in the winter. This was in Coos Bay with Propane at the stations $2.75 a gallon. and $3.90 delivered. When we bought the house in Dallas we switched the heat to Electric for my Brother who was living in it. It ran $200 a month in the winter.

This should tell you Propane is the highest, Electric in the middle, and Natural gas the cheapest.

Keep in mind during a power outage, Gas in any form is the only dependable source and you must still have a source of electricity for the thermostat and blower unless it is a fireplace or one of the non electric gas heaters.

After a wet September, is this one of the driest Nov / Decembers you have experienced since living in Bend?

I sure hope some storms come soon for the ski areas, snow pack and summer water supplies...
