No poultry at the Deschutes County Fair this year.

That spoils some of my summer fun. I like to enter a bird. Then I get a free pass so I can go to the fair every day and take care of my bird. I go down to McDonalds and get a free concert ticket for every night.

My birds always win prize money that refunds my entry fee.

It's my own personal version of gaming the system.

Really, it's too bad. The poultry barn is immensely popular with the public.

That is a bummer for you, as it sounds like it is something you look forward to.

Hopefully this bird pandemic will be over soon, and hope all your feather friends are doing well

Oregonwoodsmoke,
Is it bird flu causing this? Have there been cases in OR if it is? All of OR canceling poultry exhibits or just Deschutes (I'm not in OR but looking to relocate there). We just have the backyard chickens and don't show them but used to do the same thing as you with my ponies, enter one in halter and get passes to our local fair, prize money paid for entry etc. It was gaming the system and it was fun!! Looking forward to OR fairs, our fair where I live did away completely with horses some years ago and went all commercial.

It is about bird flu. As far as I can tell, it is strictly preventative. There isn't any sort of epidemic and I'm not worried about my poultry at home. I don't know about the rest of the fairs because Deschutes County is the only place I show my birds.

Deschutes County Fair is a good one, but there is no horse show. There will be horses at the rodeo which runs along with the fair. If you like animals, they always have dock diving, which is fun to watch, and, of course, the beautifully groomed 4-H animals.

There used to be horse racing at the Crook County Fair, but I don't know if they are still doing it. Maybe someone from Prineville knows?

Heck, next year I am moving my 9 pet chickens to Oregon (they all have names). You have to get a certificate of health to cross state lines where there are inspection stations. I hope this quarantine is lifted by then because I'll bet interstate chicken travel is banned.

Thanks,
I was hoping its just preventative.Did some quick research and see some state fairs and local fairs in midwest have canceled poultry shows this year. Too bad about Deschutes not having horse shows at fair anymore, still seems a somewhat horse area. We almost made an offer on a Prineville area place 2 weeks ago but didn't on account of the high fire danger and limited access and bad water pressure at the property. Love the whole area and hoping to find something affordable that will work, bringing all our animals when we move. Elk Wallow, we do know we need health certificates for the crittters to cross state lines, if a quarantine is in place for any reason I would be concerned about confiscation? Sue
