I would so and everyone else be so for that idea!!!! We are looking at two weeks if displaced from no infrastructure. Being paid by insurance if you have and most do not. Just paying our loans off and walk away ok (by the way less than your idea) OK I would jump up and down for!! Not going to happen. If my place still standing without power or road with insurance... two weeks. That is it. Yes again eyes wide open when bought. But if where you lived last time it had an issue was 1700 would you think the next 30 years would be ok?

Actually, the Volcanoes National Park folks have had their eye on Kalapana for a long time and had proposed a plan years ago to buy out and extend the park boundary as a result.Their reasoning was that Kalapana was going to be eventually covered up multiple times in the future anyway.

If the area is where you want to be do it. Just do not invest very much money in a fixed house. At least AA lava gives you time to pack up anything of value and drive away. East coast hurricanes are not so considerate.
