Hawaii Tribune-Herald :: Hilo, Hawaii (http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/articles/2008/05/02/local_news/local05.txt - broken link)

The link above is to an article about Big Island water cost and how the rates are determined. A slight increase is expected in July 2008 (about $2 every two months for the average customer, according to the article), but a larger increase may occur in 2009-2010.

Looks like a person must register with the site to see the article. However, I hadn't thought about how expensive, or inexpensive, water was on the island. I figured that it was in abundance. I figured that some people would actually have wells, as well.

Hi CaliBoy,

If you are interested in information about the Big Island, getting a password for the Tribune-Herald or West Hawaii Today is a good idea. The articles are posted for a while, then will be archived. For that access, you would have to pay a monthly fee (I don't have this service myself).

The article is about water cost for those who are on "county water". Many people here use catchment systems. Some have wells. Wells are not as common as you might expect...The increase in rates is due to the increase in the cost of electricity required to provide the service.

With aloha,

Cynthia
