Hilo Hospitals how are they? (Honolulu, Waimea: school, live, to move)

Just wondering how are the hospitals in Hilo? Is the Hilo Medical Center the only one?

It used to be Hilo Hospital but they got downgraded from what I've heard. Given a choice, it isn't the medical facility I'd choose but we don't have a lot of options on this island. There is Hilo Medical Center, a hospital in Kona, a small one in Pahala and one in Waimea, none of these are large hospitals.

Did you want to schedule a procedure there or are you considering working there?

Hilo Medical Center can't be all bad - but I am a little bias too. They saved my boyfriend's life last year when he had a blood clot in his leg that moved up into his lung. He was very very very close to dying. They will forever have my gratitude, and his. (Now, keep in mind that I have never been to Hilo Medical Center as I still live on the mainland for another few weeks, but I do know that in his case, they did a fantastic job). It might have still been classified as a hospital then - not sure.

That is good to hear, I'm looking to move there after grad school, my fiance will be finishing her residency so she'll have to send an application that way, just wanted to find out info for her.

There is also an oncology center across the street from the Hilo Medical Center (part of the same facility). A VA clinic across the street, and a Kaiser clinic next door. I believe that the Kaiser clinic only takes applications through its Honolulu offices. Good luck !
