Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Folks, sometimes, you've just got to love these "What if...?" posts. Sure, we've had "What if...?" thread starters on the forums, but your favorite blogger has decided to present a "What if...?" blog post. After all, doesn't anything we do in life begin with a single thought?

Here's my expanded thought for you: What if Lubbock, Texas, had a full metropolitan area? Now, it is a metro of sorts, but it's a long way from...

From Our "What’s for Dinner?" Files: Frisp And Slithered

Posted 04-12-2024 at 11:42 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes, we have such great moments on our City-Data forums, and there are all kinds of people on here who share their personal stories. All types of things can happen at any moment, and many times, we can get caught up in the moment.

That's as best as I can describe. Sometimes, we'll say things that are unintentional, but then, those accidents become ideas. Below is a snippet from our "What's For Dinner?" thread, perhaps the most popular of...

Verne Lundquist's Last Hurrah: The 2024 Masters

Posted 04-12-2024 at 09:48 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

He's got a long history in sportscasting. Through the years, he'd made so many memorable calls in events ranging from college basketball, college football, and pro golf.

And this year, even though he had already retired from the regular grind on CBS Sports, Verne Lundquist will be making the call from the 16th hole at Augusta National for the 2024 Masters. It will be his last, and after that, he retires for good.

What a career Verne Lundquist...

If Only Major League Pitchers Would Just Have Bionic Arms....

Posted 04-08-2024 at 07:54 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Seems like every week, I hear about a major league pitcher getting injured in some shape, manner, or form. I mean, it's almost like clockwork. Over the weekend, we just had a pitcher retire after fourteen MLB seasons, but he'd spent a big chunk of his time on the injured list.

So, we go now from Stephen Strasburg to one who's currently playing, Spencer Strider. He pitches for the Atlanta Braves and is one of the game's up-and-coming sensations. Well,...

Welcome back, gentle readers and those who like dares. No, I won't go that far with you in this post, but it's time for our Thought For The Day.

This time around, we explore the world of exercise, and as you know, it's good for the body and for the mind. But one soul out there decided to do the dance of denial in his endeavors to exercise. Here's our Thought For The Day which may or may not get you moving:
