Agree! They can't open soon enough, in my opinion! And WFM improves every neighborhood they go into. Watch...rents and higher home prices will follow WFM's opening...
Just what Boise needs, another overpriced market. I'll take Winco and Costco, thanks.
I'll take all three. You gotta admit, a Whole Foods is much better than that empty gravel lot. Plus it'll be a nice improvement to that edge of downtown.

This could be a catalyst for redevelopment of that area of west downtown.

I don't mind Whole Foods coming in, but if this happens in that area (15th/Idaho) that's an absolute travesty. That's a significant rental area and retains its atmosphere because of who can afford to rent there (college kids, mostly). You price them out and continue to yuppify downtown Boise, and that's a shame.
Not that I necessarily think that will happen. But all of you ex-Cali's fail to realize - increase in living expenses only crushes the rest of us because WAGES DON'T EVER INCREASE HERE.
A gap in affordability is all we need.
That said, Whole Foods will do well here. Costco is a different niche, and Winco is still by far the value shopping in the region and WF cannot compete with them. WF will compete with Albertsons and the Coop, and do well with it.

Sigh. Yay, just what we need.
However, it will hardly be the catalyst. The catalyst is already CCDC's plans for that pocket area between 27th, Main/Fairview, and State St.
It will be nice to see that lot filled. I do worry about the increase in traffic on 15th, 16th, Idaho and Bannock though. Those streets cannot handle too much more traffic as it is. WF might be just right (if it were a bigger department store it would obliterate the neighborhood) for it, but I think those lots off of Front and Myrtle would be better.
There seems to be concensus that anything would be better than a gravel lot. So what tenant would be more ideal than Whole Foods? What other tenant would hire 150-200 people at well above minimum wage, offer locally-produced Idaho products, give back dollars to the community and be a concerned, enviromentally-sensitive neightbor?
Would you prefer a competitor to Big O Tire across the street?
