That heat is really going to affect S. California and Arizona especially. Both have huge populations of people living in deserts, and droughts, by the geologic record, have lasted in the southwest in the past for 100 years or more. Drought brings depopulation.

A lot of folks gripe about Cali's government and high costs, but that stuff comes and goes. They tend to be self leveling, as costs go up along with population, but they go down as population decreases. There is much less a single person can do about climate change. Moving away is the easiest, cheapest, and fastest.

'm not real sure Idaho will ever get huge swells of growth. There are a lot of cities in the midwest that have withered in the last century that still have favorable climates and fairly intact basic infrastructures, and the reasons why they grew large in the past haven't essentially changed.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a city like Detroit become a national hot spot to move to in the near future; while things look bad on the surface, all the necessaries underground remain, and property that was once very expensive is now cheap again. The city will become different, but it can rebound more easily that building from the ground up in places like Idaho.
I agree. Detroit may see a rebirth/rebuild, I hope so as it was once a beautiful city! Not sure about rebuild being easy though, depending on what type infrastructure we're talking about, sometimes new is cheaper/easier than rehab on the old.

My impression is that much of the area is dog-friendly, but not sure about rental opportunities for pets. I found that many sub-division HOA's have limitations on # of pets one can own, but I don't think you'll have any problem with two if you decide to buy.

Good luck!

That was the main problem I came up against. Most Hoa's and the city of Nampa allow 2 household pets.
In Nampa if the Hoa allows you may get a kennel license they say. I never checked in to that because most Hoa's only allow 2. I have 3.
I was very limited and was not able to move as planned this year. I think I have things figured out to beable to make the move in 2016. Where there's a will there is a way!! And I'm determined to move there!! I can not wait.

Default Where are they loading the bus?

Count me in! I just sold my house in North san diego County, my wife gave birth to our third child and a recruiter contacted me for a job based out of Boise ( why do big changes always happen in 3's?).
My wife and I know we are going to have to move out of state to give our Kids a fighting chance, in addition we have serious concerns with what has happened to the state as it is clearly not the place we grew up. My wifes Parents have already moved out of state to Prescott AZ and they are trying to recruit us but to me Phoenix seems like the only job market and I not a big fan of the heat. We lived in Colorado for a few years (2007-10) and loved it, but after recently going back after some of the legislative changes it has become a sea of tie dyed trust-a-farians which is not what I want for my kids.

We are looking for much more conservative values, a small town feel, and want to feel safe when our kids play in the street.

What are some areas around/near Boise for young families?

So everything worked out, finally. House is sold and I am here, beautiful ride up too, no traffic. A million times better than driving to LA or San Diego. I want to thank my Lord, my savior ,my friend,my creator, my God, Jesus Christ for making this possible, thank you. Seeing everything green is a true blessing, as california becomes a desert.

Depends on what you're looking for and how much $$ you have for a home. I found Nampa, and Star to be sweet. Nampa has more as far as amenities, but Star is close enough to Eagle (Star is a straight shot West of Eagle, about 8 miles) that it like the best of both worlds in a way; country and city.

As for safe, I've noted a multitude of people who leave their car windows down in parking lots, especially in this heat (several days of 100+). I wouldn't, but that's the Californian in me. :-)

thanks everyone, I just really want to live in peace with my fellow mankind. I like the extra daylight until 10pm. The heat is ok too, as I lived in Tucson for 5 years, nothing compares to Arizona with heat except maybe Florida. I would rather have dry heat than wet humidity in Florida. I actually looked in Florida years ago. I remember a great deal of houses had lakes behind it like some of them here in Idaho. Every time I see a lake I think alligator. I remember the lady in Florida telling me that every body of water in Florida will eventually have an alligator in it. So im like I hope these homes in Idaho don't have alligators. Its not like I don't like them I just don't want them around where I live. Florida actually has about 50 deaths a years from alligator attacks.

I worked as a Detective in LE in California and I lock everything all the time. I always tell people to lock their garages no matter what or where you live. I worked a murder investigation where a nice lady could of lived had her husband closed the garage in broad daylight. This area mind you was extremely nice and a billionaire lived on the same court.
