Considering Boise? Here's some of the reasons why we are voted one of the most safe places to live in the country.

www.idahostatesman.com/newsupdates/story/307429.htmlBB (broken link)

In the article there's a little box to the right which says "additional information". It's hard to read the statistics in there as it does not show online the way it does in the paper. For some reason the forum format doesn't allow me to type it out like it's seen in the paper so it's more legible. Just know that the numbers to the left are for the year 1998 and the numbers to the right are for 2007. Here's what they're trying to say:

1998 2007

Boise total crime rate 5,127 3,211

Boise property crime rate 8,049 6,268
(Burglary, theft, vehicle
theft and arson)

Boise violent crime rate 577 586
(murder, rape, robbery and
aggravated assault)

Boise population 168,258 213,503

Also I believe there's a minor error in that same box. I think they meant to say the year 2007 not 2006 when they were explaining how to read the stats.

Yikes! Maybe this is why crime has decreased 37% in the last 10 years!

You know crime is a minor issue in Boise when it was front page news and a feature story on the local newscast about the major bust of a graffiti "ring" last year. Busting a couple of kids with spray paint cans would not have even made the paper in a place like Phoenix. However, in Boise it was worthy of a news conference.

Even with a checkered past that makes me lean toward a compassionate faith in reform and having lived in cities where police corruption is common, this is still something I miss about Boise.

Once an armed criminal crosses the line and becomes violent, officers shouldn't have to think twice about deadly force. It really is disgraceful that some states' legal systems allow violent criminals to feel entitled to safety once they have denied their victim(s) of that right.

There isn't a city in the Treasure Valley I wouldn't consider living in. Like anywhere however, I would carefully choose the area of any given city. The Treasure Valley is a great place to raise a family. By and large, it is a safe community with good values. Like anywhere though, if the neighborhood looks like a toilet it probably is.
