I think I've read every one of his books. As far as more recent ones, The Boys from Biloxi didn't impress me either.
I did,very much ,like Sooley.

Although it is/was the legal aspects and courtroom scenes I sought ,some, like the older, The Painted House (and Sooley) were very good, IMO.

"The Flawless Mirror" by Kamala Silva.

A wonderful book. I read it a few times before but each time I find something new in it. It's about Paramahansa Yogananda. Such an inspiring book.

Thanks, I see Grisham is up to 47 novels. I'll have to pick up Sooley. I'm a big basketball fan and it got better reviews than many of his recent books.

"The Greatest Gambling Story Ever Told": A True Tale of Three Gamblers, The Kentucky Derby, and the Mexican Cartel
Interesting and fun story about an incredible horse, and a couple of crazy gamblers.
May not be the greatest gambling story but it was the fun part.

i liked this quite a bit.
Quote:
When two young lovers abscond from a Puritan colony, little do they know that their humble cabin in the woods will become the home of an extraordinary succession of human and nonhuman characters alike. An English soldier, destined for glory, abandons the battlefields of the New World to devote himself to growing apples. A pair of spinster twins navigate war and famine, envy and desire. A crime reporter unearths an ancient mass grave—only to discover that the earth refuse to give up their secrets. A lovelorn painter, a sinister con man, a stalking panther, a lusty beetle: As the inhabitants confront the wonder and mystery around them, they begin to realize that the dark, raucous, beautiful past is very much alive.

Short book, quick read.

The Testament, John Gresham
where the blue sky begins, Katie Powner

Reread The Testament, wanted to review; the book before was by Powner. For me, a vintage female, the message was/is, what's important in my life, my relationships with others.

Quick read for either gender, again, especially where the blue skies begin, what would be a priority, bucket list, if given a short time to live .

As I was finishing, Toby Keith, county singer, age 62, died yesterday, wrote Don't Let the Old Man In.

That is a good description...it was weird, but somehow it was a really good read.
