Looked up the "Best" 100 books and I'm embarrassed to say I've only read exactly
25%. Of course, best is relative...

Surprised to see 50 Shades of Gray on the list...
so I might make my own list of favorite 100 books.

Many of them though, I've seen the movie...

If you're interested,
there's a companion book coming out later this year that details each book.

I also got 25, but have seen some of the movies when I haven't read the book, and have a few on my TBR list.

I do question the list, though -- seriously, FSOG? Twilight? Anything by Nicholas Sparks? Please.

The standard must not be "greatness" even in the most subjective sense, but must be based on popularity or sales or something.

Indeed, 'best' is a hopelessly subjective concept. However, this does not purport to be any such thing. The link aims to discover the 'best-loved' books. There are a lot of things I like the best without thinking they're actually better than other such things.

Why would that surprise you? They sold a gazillion copies. Obviously, they are very popular. The entire list is based off an online survey of the public.

Doesn't anybody bother to even find the website? Even with a broken link, it took me about ten seconds.

I've decided not to watch the Great American Read, the list disappointed me so...I'd rather be reading.

But will review the list occasionally. I still won't read Nicholas Sparks though...or TFSOG.

42/100

A lot of them are on the BBC Top 100 challenge that I'm trying to (eventually) finish.

How did you like your 42?

I have read 23 on the list but only gave a few a 5 star review. Quite a few more are on my "want to read" list and I added 3 more after seeing the list.

These lists are funny. It reminds me of the books that must be read in school. So many of them have bad reviews but they "must" be read.

Meh... the handful that I liked, I loved. The ones that I didn't like, I hated. There was no in between.
