Hello. Im from NYC and hopefully moving to Boston if I get the TSO job (airport). I was wondering what are the range of prices for a one bedroom apartment or studio in a fairly good neighborhood. What are some decent neighborhoods to live in. Also is it like NYC that you only need public transportation or should I invest in a car? Thank you!!

As far as transportation, Boston and its surrounding suburbs have a pretty good network of bus, train, light rail, and subway, but everything shuts down around 1-2am. Generally I think you can get by without a car. If you do choose to commute by mass transit, you'll want to be on a train line that goes into South Station (connects to the Silver Line to the airport). Are you renting or buying?

Look into the blue line areas. Beachmont is very nice--some new buildings in the mix and right on Revere Beach, a short hop from the airport. You can walk into the airport from Jeffries Point in East Boston, if you like being really close.

Congratulations and Good Luck. Be sure to ditch all Stankee gear at the border! : )

Thank you guys. Also how much would a one bedroom or a studio in a decent neighborhood cost? Im paying 1250 for a studio/one bedroom here in NYC.

I would disagree with this because the Red line services Quincy, and Logan is on the Blue. Because there is no direct connection between the two, it would take three trains to get to and from work. Won't be fun.

I'd second the Beachmont area or Orient Heights. Or perhaps Winthrop, although I'm not entirely familiar with the town. I'd think $1200 should get you a decent 1 bed and any of the neighorhoods mentioned above.

Logan is also on the Silver Line.

NewYorkgal, how long a commute is your max and what sort of neighborhood do you want? What's the most you can spend on rent?

Well I guess an hour commute would be the max. And Im not sure what neighborhood, since I am not familiar with Boston at all. I pay 1250 here in NYC, I would like something less than 1000.
