Hello,

I am trying to throw a relatively classy party for my brothers 40th birthday at a hotel in downtown boston. I have spent hours googling, trying to find a hotel that might lend itself to this. I am looking for a suite which could fit 8-10 people hanging out and we wouldnt be too out of place if we were (only) a little loud.

It would be on a thursday night & we are willing to pay- but I just have no idea where to start- do any hotels have a rep for this or maybe even cater to such occasions.

Feel free to send me a PM if this is esoteric data you dont want to post on the forum

Thanks

Most of the hotels rated 4 stars and higher will have suites that can accommodate 8-10 people for a party (though sleeping 8-10 may be tight). The issue will be what sort of atmosphere you want and what will you pay.

In many, perhaps even most cases (mostly at the major chains), the larger suites can't be booked through online reservation systems and you need to contact the hotel directly. One exception is the W Boston. The WOW Suite (890 sq feet) can accommodate a party of 8-10. The Extreme WOW Suite (1600 sq Ft) certainly can. Here is info on the W's suites. The W is modern, somewhat minimalist and attempts to market itself at a trendier crowd. It's located in a good spot near a number of clubs and theaters in the city's Theater District.

You mentioned classy. My favorite hotel in the city is the Liberty Hotel. I think it seamlessly marries modern and historic Boston. It's a famous and historic old jailhouse that has been converted into a modern, luxury hotel. They have a number of suites you can read about here. You'll need to call for info on pricing (the number is at the bottom of the page). The location is nice (edge of Beacon Hill), but is a little bit of a walk or cab ride to any outside nightlife. The restaurants and lounges in the hotel are beautiful, fun and of a fairly high quality.

The Fairmont Copley Plaza is a historic hotel, and is often featured in movies and TV shows. It's more traditional in its décor than the others mentioned, but it's still gorgeously appointed. They have a few suite options here. I haven't checked, but I'd wager the Fairmont is pricier than the other two listed above. It's located right next to the John Hancock Tower and Copley Square in the Back Bay section of the city. The location is excellent.

Another of Boston's iconic hotels is the Boston Harbor Hotel (it's always featured in skyline shots from the harbor). They have a variety of suite options and the location is also perfect. Here's some more info on rooms.

Also check on all of the major four star chains (Hilton, Hyatt Regency, Marriott, Sheraton, Westin, Intercontinental, Renaissance, etc) as they all have suites of varying sizes. The Marriott Custom House has "villas" in Custom House Tower hotel (the big clock tower high-rise near Faneuil Hall), but I'm not sure what the size of those rooms is. Marriott's Long Wharf is a nice location, but the rooms are a little dated.

On the higher end, The Ritz and the Mandarin Oriental are both situated nicely and offer top of the line service. Definitely check on them if money isn't an object. The Taj Boston occupies the former Ritz location and is absolutely gorgeous (and perfectly located). Also worth a look.

What is your budget? The Long Wharf Marriott has a wonderful Presidential suite with an outside deck. If you stay over on a Saturday night, then there's their Sunday Brunch in a restaurant downstairs to partake of.
