SF while maybe more expensive, had better options.

I guess, not sure where you're coming from I guess. Whatever.

That's a rather upper end neighborhood for 1k a bedroom. I paid that and more for lesser neighborhoods in SF that, on the surface, don't seem much different. Except that has 2 baths? Wow, exceptional. You're not getting that in SF.

Each to their own.

Chicago was damn cheap when I lived there.

I'd certainly take the Cambridge one over the Brookline one.

One of the gems:

Apartment for Rent at 110 Longwood Ave., #05, Brookline, MA 02446 - realtor.com®

Hard to believe someone can afford to pay that kind of rent and doesn't believe in housework 101. One of those rooms looks like a kid's room.

Many are kids living together as roommates. Landlord can get great rent and not worry about much updating and amenities.
Renting to families is not as simple. Most adults/parents care about pesky things like updated kitchen, clean baths, new windows, safe environment for the kids.. etc.

I would advise OP to look at some other previously suggested towns in metro Boston.

You shouldn't be if you read and believed my first post.

And I wouldn't want to live on Longwood ave. but hey, beggars can't be choosers eh? The market in Brookline and some other areas is hot hot hot. There's a good reason for that too.

I do understand your surprise about it though. Anyhow, best of luck and welcome to the Athens of America!

haha! well, we lived there when kidless so im not really sure about the experience there with kids, plus i wouldn't feel right paying 4k to live in porter in a weird way! and its a little further from the city.

but for anyone looking for a place on a budget, thats my go-to! way better option than allston/brighton/southie IMO althugh i know all have their nice parts.
