This is probably a bit far in advance but I'm trying to budget for the future so I just wanted to ask.

Despite my username, I've never actually lived in the immediate Boston area. I was born and raised in northern New Hampshire, went to UNH and moved to Michigan for a job after graduation. I've spent a fair amount of time in the city though and am looking forward to actually living there. I'm moving "home" next year to attend grad school in Boston. My job ends in early June and I would rather move back sooner rather than later.

How much do you all think it'll cost to sublease an apartment in Boston for the summer? Is there a price decrease since undergrads in town want to get out? I'd prefer to be in the Somerville/Cambridge area if that helps but am open to whatever.

I do not think you will get chap rent simply because you are here in June. Landlord usually have no problem filling apartments in Cambridge/Somerville area, ever. It would need to be sub-standard rat-hole, and even then... What is your budget?

My daughter and her husband rented a sublet in Cambridge one summer. I believe they found it on Craigslist. The apartment had been leased to a couple who were graduating Harvard students and the lease ran through September.

Those kind of deals are out there.

My budget is around $800/month and below. I'm not looking for my own place and would rather just share an apartment with roommates to save money. If the price is extremely high, I would just save my money and wait until August to move.

Cambridge/Somerville is just a preference though and I'd be happy to be anywhere in the metro area with easy T access.

For 800 a month you'll have to share. That should make it easier to find someplace, though.

I've never had my own place (blame my Yankee frugality) so sharing is definitely something I want to do. I can't imagine that there are too many people in their 20s who have their own place (unless they have a high paying job).
