Why only West Roxbury? A west roxbury to Cambridge commute would be awful. Waltham would be a little bit easier though youd still have to deal with 128 traffic.

Why don't you wait to see where you are working before you decide. If you work in Waltham, you might as well live in Waltham. If in Cambridge, maybe look in Medford. If you work near the T, Quincy would be an option too. All are better than W Roxbury for commuting.

I live in Roz and commute to Waltham. Its a breeze getting in at 6:30 am, coming home is a different beast. 128 is a nightmare starting at 1:00 PM

We have a friend who lives in Jamaica Plain. She works in Cambridge. She had a Christmas party, and many neighbors were retirees who moved from places like Newton. I know you're not a retiree, and you asked about West Roxbury, not JP, but that might be something to consider. Our friend is 40ish and single and really likes living there. There seems to be a good mix of people.

People let their dogs run off leash at millennium park in West Roxbury. There is a kayak landing for the pups to swim from and quite a bit of forest to scamper through (or hide in . . . if you're my ******* misbehaving coonhound and you want to force another dog walker to quit.)

West Rox is a fine place to live. The Center is nice with plenty of bars and restaurants for a single woman. The commute you are asking about is not too bad if you learn the brookline-newton short cuts. PM me for a good realtor in the area...

Cambridge wouldn't be as bad but a Waltham commute would be rough. While not a robust scene really, there are older singles there. Your best bet would be getting involved through the local churches and other organizations, rather than the small number of pubs that cater more to DINKs, townies and younger folk.
