How is traffic going into Boston on a typical day (not at rush hour)? I got offered a good job in Nashua NH and I am curious how difficult going into Boston would be for recreation. I had family that lived on Long Island NY which is very close to the NYC, but they told me that their was so much traffic that it was never worth the trouble going into the city. I know NY is a lot bigger then Boston, but I figure it is probably not that different. Or is it?

On a weekend, should be fine most hours of the day. On a weekday I probably wouldn't bother. Rush hour is quite long and unless you can time your trip right it will be more hassle than it's worth.

You can be to Boston or Portsmouth in an hour, or Manchester in 20 mins in typical weekend traffic.

Even on the weekends there may be traffic. People still try to escape Boston on weekends and thus there may be traffic later on Sunday afternoons. 128 at 93 in Woburn often has bumper to bumper on Saturday AM and Sunday PM.

When I lived in Boston area and had friends in Nashua, it was roughly a 45-50 min ride for me when I'd go see them, or return home. That was usually fri/sat evenings after the rush.

The ride doesn't seem bad, but I'm just concerned about how accessible Boston will be from Nashua. If I could live in Boston I would, but I would rather be closer to my job then have to commute.

The drive isn't too bad when it's not rush hour, but one always has to worry about parking. It depends on where in Boston you would want to visit.

Realistically after working 40+ hours a week the last thing you're going to want to do is drive to Boston on your days off. The novelty wears off quickly.
