My wife and I are seriously considering moving to Longmont this Spring, in fact we just recently made an offer on a house a few blocks EAST of Main St in Old Town Longmont. Moving from the Denver area (after 6 years) and having spent only a limited amount of time in Longmont, we are experiencing a bit of last minute hesitation and our decision to buy into what seems to be a still "up and coming" side of Longmont...

We are both young professionals in our late 20's, with a dog and no immediate plans for kids. We love the small town feel, older homes, and walkability that Old Town has to offer (we're not suburbia people). I am also a HUGE craft beer nerd and have already scouted the bike routes to Left Hand, Oskar, and the other breweries (this played a big role in deciding on Longmont!). Overall, we think it will be a great fit.

Our only discomfort is the appearance of a few of the houses in our immediate neighborhood. Many, like ours are really nice and well kept up, however, there's a few that are definitely eyesores. I'm not so much concerned about crime, as I've already looked at crime reports and it's nothing compared to where we used to live in East Denver. And we're aware the "Westside" of Main may be a little on the nicer side and more desirable now, but based on our research it seems that the Eastside of Old Town is cleaning up and only getting better too. Right?

For anyone who lives in Old Town (or Longmont), is that a reasonable consensus?? How fast has the area turned around with houses being flipped, sold, etc..? How much better has it gotten in the last 5 years? How much better do you see it getting in 5 more years? We are confident from an investment standpoint, but also want the neighborhood to keep improving, and soon!

Hello, I am curious as to which house you have put an offer on and feel free to private message me. We moved to the historic east side about 7 years ago, and then 3 years ago we moved to the west side. The reasons we moved were primarily:
Trains: too much noise, it was starting to drive us nuts.
Riffraff: way too many tweakers walking past our house. Swat teams busting houses etc.
Schools: you can open enroll, but the schools we wanted to go to were on the west side. (We moved a year after having our kid)

I love the west side and I have no regrets. Yes, the east side is getting better (as is the west side) and prices are going up in both neighborhoods. I think all of old town will be really hot at some point, but can't judge as to the timeline. I love old town. We have tons of friends on both the east side and west side and there is a really strong community here.

I do think it sounds like a great fit for you - welcome! As I said, please feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

Hi, my husband and I are now considering moving to Old North Longmont and I found this thread. Did you move? Do you like it? Have anything to share about it if you did move?
Thanks so much!
