Would you mind referring me to your source for the information on the "one-third" teacher layoffs? I don't believe it. Though I certainly would be in favor of a 1/3 layoff for school administration (not teachers).

1. What? You have not been paying attention to the California State Budget and its effects on teachers?

2. You have never heard of our podunk district, so of what merit would my sourcing it do for you?

Of more importance is this number, 26,000, that is the number of teachers laid off due to the budget crisis.

Its tough to think intelligently when you lack a grasp of the basic facts and concepts.

What bull! You made up a number out of thin air!

I'll bet no school district anywhere in California (including SLO) has laid off 1/3 of its teachers. Sure I know about budget problems - I pay plenty of property taxes for schools. But I don't make up numbers.

If I'm wrong show me the source for your claim and I'll apologize.

Every year a huge number of teachers get "laid off" in the spring and re-hired in the fall. While I'm sure some teachers have lost their jobs, the overwhelming majority of those getting a layoff notice never actually get laid off.

Yes, I see what you mean.

To many of us, EscapeCalifornia, means Escape California, but not to others.

But, here, to help you, Bloom's taxonomy;
Quote:

Evaluation
Synthesis
Analysis
Application
Comprehension
Knowledge

. Multiple choice tests, the tests right wing whackos think are the way to rate schools can test only, knowledge and comprehension. The lowest levels of thinking. A good education teaches students how to use higher level thinking, the problem here, is that, this higher level thinking is not, and cannot be tested by standardized tests.
Now, political conservatives do not want higher level thinking taught, as it would be impossible to be a political conservative if one used Evaluation, Synthesis, and Analysis.

Why is it that liberals are always the quickest to resort to name calling and personal attacks? That must be their way of showing their superior thinking skills.

The personal attack is a sign that they have no rational arguement to make. They are reduced to name calling.

And they are shameless. They can be caught with their lies and they just ignore the event and launch their next falsehood. Shamelss. Liberalism is nothing but one big lie.

How does a thread entitled - San Luis Obispo, The happiest town in America, devolve into name calling, stereotyping, etc...? Is it the recent political climate of the forum gone wild? Who cares if someone is liberal or conservative, I mean really? Both coexist in SLO County and CA. So how about let's get back on topic already, geesh!

It's so funny to read everyone's posts. I smile at how easily riled up people get about a paragraph in a book. SLO is a wonderful place. Live there if you like it. Move if you don't.
