This weekend I plan to go with all my fam to scout the area to have a definite feel for Trinidad.

Are there any locals who have a knowledge of Trinidad?? thanks so much!
Trinidad is very nice and so is Patricks Point, which is still Trinidad technically. Arcata is a college town and that says it all right there. McKinleyville is pretty much a bedroom community. McK has the best prices when it comes to homes or rent rates. Trinidad is the most expensive town to live in around here. Trinidad is also very small at around 300 people. I would never live in Eureka unless it was in Cutten or Myrtle town areas. There are also the small towns of Fieldbrook and Glendale east of us and Blue lake a bit more inland. If Trinidad could be compared to Monterey, then Patricks Point is comparable to Carmel in contrast.

Thanks DragonSlayer. We hope Trinidad will work for us and we are going to go up to the town either tomorrow or Sunday. I have considered Monterey before but it is very pricey, so if Trinidad is like Monterey it will probably be great. The real estate is affordable for us in Trinidad.

Thanks again

There is also Westhaven just before Trinidad and Moonstone beach. Go into Google Earth and look at the overheads of our towns, that tells you how much space each town still has for growth. Arcata and Eureka have pretty much met their limit of growth. You do know that there is a casino in Trinidad. Economically it is a plus for the town, stop in a see it, it is along scenic drive going south from Eureka. These are my pictures of Trinidad and Trinidad Head. Trinidad was named by the Spanish navy on June 11 1775, yet the bay was not entered till 1806 by the Russians and then in 1849 and 1850 when it was named Humboldt bay.

You'll be fine as long as you don't mind the risk of being washed into the ocean when the Cascadia Subduction Zone goes. Fortunately, the chance of that happening within our lifetimes is seen to be 1 in 3 at most.

those pics make me want to visit right this minute, but I still wouldn't want to live in the area again. To the OP, it does sound like a place you could be very happy living.

Nice pictures! thank you for all your help and information. I don't think I would really mind a little casino. We would like to live on the edge of town anyway so it probably wouldn't be much of a problem if we did mind it. We'll definitely take a look at Westhaven when we go up tomorrow.

Confused by your use of the word "coastal". If you mean beachfront, forget it. Very little available and only at very high prices. If your idea of "Coastal" includes McKinleyville, you should be able to find something. Trinidad itself is a split town- the poor folks in the trailer park , the rich folks in the expensive housing. Trinidad has 700 inhabitants and services accordingly. Mack and Arcata probably better for kids. Good luck.

My hobby is nature photography which this area really lends itself to in many ways. Here is one of my favorite destinations when I head that way - Del Norte Coast Redwoods:
