bah, why do people feel the need to compare apples and oranges? So much of it is personal preference you can't really say definitive one is better than another. Sure CA has a great climate and topography but it's also full of rich liberals with an out of control government and outrageous cost of living. I would not personally want to live in a climate as warm as Texas, which is basically the warmest in the country, especially on the east side where it not only gets to 100 all the time, but with humidity as well. But some may like that....

Most of Texas has relatively little humidity. Houston is one of very few cities that have such a climate. Also, most of Texas isn't that hot. It's mostly mild weather. Similar to California believe it or not. And I do not believe that TX is the warmest state in the country. Isn't that Arizona?

"What U.S. cities display the combination of intensity and persistence of heat year in and year out?

To answer that, we pored through 30-year average high temperature data for the months of June, July, and August to come up with our list of six of the hottest large U.S. cities.

In order to avoid restricting the list to simply the Desert Southwest or Texas, we highlighted one city from each of six regions".

If this were a top 10 list I am certain Death Valley would be on it.

Only parts of Texas will hit extreme heat during the hottest part of the summer. Texas is a huge state with varying temps.

Fontana gets hot as well, but the influence of the Pacific ensures cooler nights, save for a handful per year. Hottest it's been since I moved here: 113. Historical high: 114.

Heat is only part of the equation, 110 in Palm Springs is much more comfortable than 90 in Atlanta.

Most westerners, even those from our hotter climes, wilt like an old rose in the heat and humidity of the East in summer.

True!

I love the humidity...it has kept me very well preserved!

Since I have family that live all over the State from Houston to Austin to Dallas to San Antonio, I have to disagree about humidity. Granted Houston and all cities along the gulf have the worst, but Austin and San Antonio are pretty humid too. Dallas is somewhat better, but does is still quite high compared to California. There is a reason why Dallas is in Tornado Alley. The last two years all of Texas has suffered from a terrible drought with extremely high temperatures.
