For all the money Californians have paid into education you ought to have the best schools in the country. I taught there for three years and had to give up before I went off the deep end. Sure, great neighborhoods have good to great schools but the policies enacted over the past 40 years have destroyed a once great educational system for most students. Rule #1 should be school is taught in English only. It should be a requirement of immigration. And we should not allow illegal immigrants to attend school. I can't think of another country that's as stupid as we are when it comes to this issue.

These test scores should be a warning not a cause for celebration.

To be fair, California did wisely turn against the multilingual approach, though it was a battle.

America was actually quite smart about immigration during most of our history. It all changed in 1965. It's worth studying the politics behind the 1965 immigration act. Kevin MacDonald is the most authoritative source.
