I don't do the majority of my grocery shopping at the Big 3 unionized grocery stores anyway, so I don't feel it will inconvenience me in any way. My grocery shopping is done at non-union stores such as Trader Joe's, Costco, Stater Brothers and Fresh & Easy. The last grocery strike in 2003-04 was the impetus that drove me to shop where I do now.

Are you sure Costco is not union?

I looked this up on Wikipedia:

Costco - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under the heading Working at Costco:

While some former Price Club locations in California and the northeastern United States are staffed by Teamsters, the majority of Costco locations are not unionized.
My local Costco store at Lakewood Center Mall is not unionized.

Aw those poor dears. Having to pay a little bit more of what would still be below market costs for heatlhcare, OH THE HUMANITY!

The sense of entitlement is just beyond the pale. This is why I have a very difficult time taking unions seriously.

I welcome conflict. I'll be the guy buying one item at a time. The last time the stooges were too lazy to picket for themselves and they hired sign hangers. Welcome to the UE line.

The stores rolled out some good deals last time this happened.

After speaking with a friend who works for one of the 'big 3' markets, i was told that the sticking point is that union members don't want to pay $9/week towards their medical coverage (which they pay $0 for under their current contract). should be interesting to see how this plays out. in these times, i don't think people will mind crossing a picket line for cheaper prices considering everything else that is going on. lucky for me, i shouldn't be affected directly since all of my grocery shopping is done at TJ's and costco (neither of which are unionized).
It blows my mind, when the economy is so awful and the unemployment rate out of site, that any union would even consider striking..I guess I just don't understand the mind set of unions or their workers.

HEY! A whole $40 a month for medical coverage when there's a whole new generation without. Oh, the horror. How COULD they submit to such a slap in the face to their importance?

What a pile of...

Last time they had a strike it was a hassle. Now I shop Costco & TJ's for 90% of my families food. Most of the rest, usually center store processed foods or some lesser used recipe ingredients, we get at Target who has considerably expanded their grocery offering in the last few years (and has way lower prices on that stuff). I can't remember the last time we went to the neighborhood Albertsons and left with more then a hand basket of items.

I hope the workers and grocery chains work it out, but frankly this is a non-issue for us.
