Whoooops! Dirty California hippies apparently aren't the only ones living dangerously! Gaaaack! Read all about it (below). How about an American family trapped in Canada? Who could possibly be so stupid? Don't these people know what Canadians do to Americans who stray? And these people took their children with! No excuses. If we ever get these folks back I hope the government takes the kids away and puts the parents to hard labor to pay back the costs of resources applied in the search and delicate diplomatic negotiations with hostile tribes (Canadians are a tribe, aren't they?)

You realize, special forces in the US and the UK, spent hundreds, literally HUNDREDS of hours, searching for, planning, etc there rescue and escape? The hundreds of man hours of satellite intelligence, human intelligence; not too mention money paid for on the ground intelligence.

MILLIONS of dollars were WASTED on these limp wristed hippies, so they can, "Exercise their supposed right to hike where they want."
Before you conclude your cost/benefit analysis, could you please include the value to the news media (TV, print, Internet) for being able to cover this story and then insert commercials so that their viewers/readers would keep consuming news?

I'm just saying that news no matter what the news is consumed and disseminated to the public, at a profit, and there's some intrinsic value to every news story, and IMO particularly to bad news. If it bleeds it leads. Good news is no news.

I still haven't seen a definitive statement as to who exactly is paying the "bail" (or "fine"). Is it US taxpayers? Foundations? Surely not the families of the ... victims(?).

When I first heard this news story, this was what I was thinking.
